A SAN ANTONIO BURNER!! OH MY!
A SAN ANTONIO BURNER!! OH MY!
Hai everybody, my name is Horus. I'm from the lovely town of San Antonio, Texas and in all honesty I am totally new to Burning man culture. I've been to one burn a year after i heard about the society and felt forever changed. my goal in joining this forum is to find other burners around town to start a regional group and to get any help the burners might be able to offer.
I personally find it troublesome that this one of the largest cities in the state and one of the only major ones without a regional group.

Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Contact the nearest Regional Coordinator on this list (http://regionals.burningman.com/regional_directory.html) and seek their advice. You'll have a blast!CKHorus wrote:Well senñor dragon, I'm working on it. Do you have any advice? What's the first step in starting a regional group? Who do I need to talk to? TEACH ME YOUR WAYS!!!!!

I spoke to a guy from Texas on the playa 2010...he told me the Austin, Texas regional burn, flipside, was off the hook...and seems to me one hour to Austin is a short drive...afterall it is Texas and ain't everything bigger there?dragonpilot wrote:Contact the nearest Regional Coordinator on this list (http://regionals.burningman.com/regional_directory.html) and seek their advice. Also, yes, sign up for your regionals announce list, truly amazing what you'll gain from that.
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!
yes. flipside is off the hook. a lot of people prefer it rather than going to burningman. yes, it is that awesome. you can have just as much fun at flipside with out spending thousands of dollars......and you have a river to go tubing in. cant beat that. dont get me wrong, i love burning man but i feel very lucky to have the best regional in the country right in my back yard.

I actually heard flipside is NOTHING like BM. I heard that everyone just throws their trash on the ground. Its Muggy and it rains and its hot...
That over 60% of the participants have never nor ever intend to go to Burningman in Nevada.
But as with any larger city,CKHorus, there are burners everywhere you just dont see them!
I lived in Reno for 3 yrs, then I got closer to finally going, all these burners came out of the wallpaper, now I see them everywhere...its weird! But awesome!!!

Names pinemom, but my friends call me "Piney".
pinemom- i wouldnt say all that. there isnt trash all over the ground. there is some here and there but thats to be expected with almost 3000 people. everyone is very anal with keeping things clean and LNT. there are some people who have never been to bm but go by the same principles and are respectful. as far as being hot....yes, its hot as shit. but theres a river to swim in and go tubing. oh, and it didnt rain at all this year. not a drop.

I was at flipside last year and found it to be awful. There was a ton of trash, especially in and around the potties, and that is not something found in BRC with 50k people. IMHO, the event felt very cold to anyone that wasn't part of the usual gang. That is completely different in BRC! Lastly, the weather is horrendous. Whoever thought that camping in central Texas on memorial day weekend was a good idea is demented.drucake wrote:pinemom- i wouldnt say all that. there isnt trash all over the ground. there is some here and there but thats to be expected with almost 3000 people. everyone is very anal with keeping things clean and LNT. there are some people who have never been to bm but go by the same principles and are respectful. as far as being hot....yes, its hot as shit. but theres a river to swim in and go tubing. oh, and it didnt rain at all this year. not a drop.
I'm glad there are regionals, but I'll pass on flipside and keep going to BRC.
Suck it.
