Long Beach based with BRC Intentions
Long Beach based with BRC Intentions
Hello! I can say in advance that I am very much looking forward to getting to meet some extraordinary people through this forum. Right now work is crazy so I only have time to get online (for pleasure anyway) towards the end of the day but I intend to keep coming back.
I just moved out to Long Beach, CA from the east coast in July 2009. I lived in a little mountain town of around 8,000 people so it's a total 180 here as far as culture and social dynamics. I heard about Burning Man back in 2006 after attending Bonnaroo and the idea of going always seemed beyond magical. The way things are looking now I'm intending to make the trek for Rites of Passage since I live so much closer and I'll hopefully be able to bring some people with me.
I work at one of a bajillion law firms in southern California and come from a background in waiting tables and then call center management. I went to a university for three years but dropped out due to some extenuating circumstances. I have a pretty rad house in downtown LBC with 5 awesome and BM-minded individuals.
This is scattered about here and there as far as any pertinent information goes but I just want to say that I am beyond happy to even consider myself a part of the amazing idea you all have created with your community. I hope I get to be a part of BRC in 2011 and meet many of you face to face. Any questions you might have I would love to answer.

Youll have a blast, and dont forget to finish up that degree when you can...you will regret it later if you dont, plus you have already done the bulk of it.Tifya wrote:Hello! You can go to local burner stuff before if you want to meet more people and be better prepared. There are always lost of things going on. Our group has two different events planned for thanksgiving weekend. One is big party with about 300 people attending so far and the other is a chill campout which will probably only have a handfull of us.

Thank you! I realize that the biggest part of all of it is planning ahead and I want to be able to bring plenty of awesome stuff to give away too. I'm gonna treat BM2011 like a miniature 401(k) and just put money from every paycheck towards it.TomServo wrote:

I keep reading more and more and watchin videos. One of my friends that has also completely committed to the idea linked me the three-part DJ Sharam videos and those just made me more rabid to get to Labor Day weekend again.mdmf007 wrote:

re: the degree, unfortunately my path doesn't really lie in that direction as far as I can tell. It's always a viable option and maybe later in life I'll nail down something but right now I have an incredibly awesome job and if my music production ideas work out then I'll be doing that for a few years at the least.
Thanks. My first reaction was to pull out the, "Fuck you, you judging assclown" and sarcasm overload response. However I just went through a lot of transitional things with some very close people and it made me want to go the opposite direction. Few things can withstand an assault of positive energy.Artemis wrote:Welcome to eplaya, Tifya.
I like what you said in response to that other newb's Introduce Yourself thread.
I went and signed up at the LA Burning Man web site so hopefully I'll be able to get in touch with some people and get some ideas as to what to expect/bring/prepare outside of the guides on the site.MikeVDS wrote:You can go to local burner stuff before if you want to meet more people and be better prepared. Thanks again to everyone for your warm welcome. I hope you have an amazing week and I'll be back as often as I can to start building up some relationships here. Then when we meet in 2011 we won't be absolute strangers.

WELCOME!!
Please, Don't forget to read the survival guide.
Now that you're only about 400 miles from the Black Rock Desert as opposed to 2,500 miles, the task should be easier.
