Let it Snow!!

Post by maryanimal » Mon Nov 22, 2010 7:54 pm

Well there is finally snow falling here! Single digit days and more snow!! There is a blizzard watch tonight! So I thought I'd tell you all in here! I'm going to go build a snowperson! Oh btw, any good snow stories from you?
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Utah gets hit tonight. I hope everyone with animals keeps them indoors and warm, and those forced to travel be prepared and stay safe.

The news said it will snow 2 inches tonight.. So everyone is asked to park on the even side of the street for snow removal..

The next night the news said it will snow 4 inches, please park on the odd side of the street.. Makes it easyer for the snow plows..

Now the news is 6 inches of snow.. The old man asks where am i supposed to park now.. The wife said: Why not just leave it in the garage for tonight..

Yup, we're finally getting it. I had been wondering as I was down in the bay area...every day i called home..."not much, just a dusting".
But was hearing of major footage on the hill....well, did the "HILL" yesterday to get home,Thats where they're hiding it! Up there!!! 6 feet up on top of 80...3 inches of solid packed black ice 40 big rigs unchained and a FREAK in a unloaded double trailer being a complete idiot!
a 45 min. trip took 4.5 hours....

This morning woke...to a "dusting" hahahaaaaaaa

but now, its gearing up to be an actual storm on this side of the Mountain! Hold onto your hats Reno...it actually may give us something to write home about????
maybe???

Were chain controls in effect? I've never gotten over 80...in the snow....without a visual inspection by CHP. Doubles....I thought were banned during chain control conditions.

Lots of the white stuff blowing around in east Sparks but nothing sticking to the ground - yet.

Update - coming down heavy now. Like someone dumped boxes of white styrofoam peanuts. Starting to stick to the ground. Maybe we'll get an inch or two afterall. Sure glad I don't have to go anywhere today. Think I'll spend some time in front of the fireplace with some popcorn.

Having just enough snow to turn the grass white.. The birds are all under a low brunched evergreen.. There are about six Robins, one blue J, a squirrel and a bunch of nut hatch. The little guys are to fast to count.. We keep weeds out of that area by putting down news paper then covering back with pine in the spring.. By the winter lots of stuff is growing there.. But the birds keep coming over and looking in the window.. Being an old softy.. I put a bunch of nuts and seed out.. What do these damn bird think it is Thanksging or something?

Utah has a blizzard warning and the schools are already closing. Larry is in it running south as hard as he can. He says it is BAD. As in , the interstate keeps vanishing under his wheels. I-15 closed at Idaho Falls.

Our storm front is a combo of the one rolling in from the west plus the one pushing arctic air down from the north.

Dangerous Dave! I used to do that too. I also would slow down in my truck and let others grab on when driving to my ski bummin' it, ski area job(s).
Hitchhiking and or hooky bobbing...which is more dangerous? BOTH!

We have been getting SLAMMED in Tahoe...many feet, 5 or 6? Horrendous winds....down to 1 degree or zero tonight...brrrr. (arthritis/injuries love this)

Yesterday when there was a sunny break in the 5day+ storm, I saw two beautiful Bald Eagles circling on the thermals, come all the way up from the shoreline below and circle in front of the house and then back down to the lake....I know they were fishing....they often make a catch and bring the fish up and eat it in some of the old dead, half burned down tree tops surrounding my house (I'm also a fire victim/survivor  ) ...beautiful sighting but they moved on down the shoreline (500 feet below my window) and kept on fishing and soaring.
They have those "Eagle eyes" and they manage to do rather well (better than I usually do that's for sure) they are amazing to watch and come very close to the homes.

I Wish a had a photo of the Circling Eagles, maybe next time they stop for lunch

Happy snowy Turkey Day to all...

Well, we received just 7 inches of snow in our "blizzard". I love it! I can't wait to get more! We had a "high" of 10 degrees F. today. Right now @ 7:10 pm it's -1.
It'll be colder as the night goes on. all the warming places around the area are open for the homeless thank God. We're going to have an awesome snowy winter this year. I have a friend coming in for a visit in Jan. and I told him to dress warm and bring long underwear cuz it'll be cold!

And moonrise, I understand the arthritis/injuries things. However I won't let it keep me from hitting the slopes (literally) and snowboarding this year! I love driving in it. I haven't put my studded tires on yet and it's so fun to fishtail when I hook a corner! However no one is around when I do that of course.

I can't even fathom what it's like to be a truck driver and have to drive in this!

wow! snow ....

i seem to be between blizzards here in boise, but don't quite understand how, since i am between reno and spokane .... ???

i drove home from portland sunday, and it was so pretty! yellow hills with a thin layer of white on them. this morning it was much whiter, and even at noon was a PIA to drive in, but i never saw it actually snowing hard. but maybe that's a good thing .... ?

what a trip, though. the sun is so low here .... it used to be above my car at noon, now it seems so low in the sky ... very interesting, moving 1000 miles straight north!!

i am ready for spring......

Try adding fresh, finely grated zest of orange, ground clove, ground allspice and some raspberry (either Chambord liquer or raspberry jam or jelly, don't use fresh ra$pberrie$, buy the Chambord instead!)
add those things on a short simmer to either canned whole berry or home cooked cranberry sauce. Chill or serve warm-ish.

Easy gourmet...learned this in a very good hotel kitchen many years ago.
{careful with the clove n allspice}

I put mine in the oven. Make sure it is on foil on a cookie sheet in case it bubbles over. About 45 minutes at 350.

If anyone wants to ski Utah, I have a spare room if you don't mind sharing with dad's cats. I have to give them their own room or there is blood between them and my Siamese.

I have SnowBasin, Wolf Creek and Powder Mountain just 30 minutes or so up the canyon. Personally, I don't ski. Never been interested, went in Japan and was miserable.
