We're supposed to get at least another 12+ inches in the nest 48 hours teardropper! It snowed lightly all day to day. I love a white thanksgiving! btw, 2 nights ago our low was -9! Brrrrrrrrr

Snowed enough to close Donner's Pass. That's a lot of truckers behind a day.

I think they'd put the plows away or some such nonsense.

It's nasty wet slop, really slippery stuff, all of us are sliding into ditches and worse; e.g. a few garages and vehicles

Could be the interstate (I-80) became blocked by a jack knifed truck situation, mixed with a few cars and that'll close it for a while. .

I-80 is now a star pupil in highway type magazines, teams of freeway builnding geeks,some come from as far away as Japan and other countries to study it as an example of mdoern day road building. I think they layed new fiber optics in from SF Bay Area to Reno--light speed, now that'd be the way to travel

Bonus! Those coming in on I-80 now have a sweet drive for the burn....they did a good job rebuilding I-80 and they're finished or close to it. I think there may be a short portion at the NV state line, hopefully it'll be finished by August

Snow stopped, sun is out....aaahh. The melting is filling Tahoe to the brim!

They're saying that our bad weather is turning into those tornados after it goes through Colorado and ends up on the Great Plains.

Seems there's lots of states between CO and MO, but whatever.

Weather. In the high desert east of the Cascades we have had, last year, snow in June and then in October. We rarely put away the fleece. So, typically, we've had rain mixed with snow and 40Ëš days this last week. Grey today, 39Ëš as I type, getting teardrop trailer ready for a trip the Black Rock desert and Rendezvous. Hope the rain/snow holds off, just while I pack. 20% chance of rain Sat/Sun on the playa and with caution the playa is mostly drivable. This from Metric, on the ground in Gerlach.

Up here in the high desert of southern Oregon we get used to the weather. Came from the Midwest where, until this year, have been lamenting the scarcity of thunder storms. Now that climate change (yes, warmest Gulf of Mexico temp ever) has changed those storms into super cell monsters, all the time, our nostalgic loss is tempered. All we have is earthquakes and volcanoes. I've adapted well, the fleece is always in one of the packs. Unless you're from Florida or SoCal, the cool is not a problem. It's real do-something-outdoors weather that's rarely too hot.

Can't wait to get to the playa this weekend...

Friggin' late snow has postponed setting up my carport for a test and to leave up alllll summer for usage. I need to spend less time on this word box and more on real/outdoor BM projects. "It's never to early to panic" so true...

Well, thank you, makes me feel all warm and squshy inside, kinda' like being home.

As far as panic... I live just below it but not quite there. Remember, it's 100 days till the Man burns. I may be fast approaching that panic line. Going to Portlands regional, SOAK in mid June. Test run. Gotta' go, gotta' get this done, gotta', gotta', gotta'...

100 days? How DO you do it all? Let me guess....Gotta' PANIC!! (?)

I have a couple of day regional events to enjoy and endless big and small projects to finish (starting to pleasantly panic here) I'm a tad jealous of you burners with a few++ burns under your belts, you have the vehicles and big stuff worked out.

I'm getting there, have most of what I'll need. Oh and I almost forgot, I'm also helping a competent burgin prepare and come to the burn. things are shaping up....the extra hands, eyes and ears are a great big help.

Well, as I posted in another topic, for me at least, it doesn't seem to get better. Sure, the essentials seem to stay the same, but the new really-got-to-have stuff, the refinements, the... the...

I told my partner once, ya' know, we really have everything we need. Next year will be so much cheaper. Didn't happen. And that's OK. Part of it for me is I live pretty close to the playa so I go 2 or 3 times a year. Going down tomorrow. I'll go down more now that the BLM got the financing for the freshwater spring location and analysis program. Get to drive off road all over the Black Rock doing that. Just gives me a chance to give back. That and I retired early and, like my wife says, and have way too much time on my hands. Don't mistake me here. I am really fine with it. Rendezvous on the Black Rock, Fourth of Juplaya, this new BLM project, this year going to the Portland regional burn, SOAK. I can bring out all the playa stuff. Turns it into an all year of planning, purchasing, building... If I had to have a job too... My priorities would get in the way of a job.

Today, the panic factor is low...

Edit: Just noticed you're pretty close, too. Too bad you have to have a job. They really do get in the way ...

Nice line up of trips you get to enjoy; I might make the 4th of Juplaya some year. Maybe in 2012. Darned job keeps getting in the way.

Current forecast is for another 9 inches of snow above 7000 feet in the Sierras. Tioga Pass Road is still not plowed all the way through. SR 108 (Sonora Pass Road) still isn't open yet.

Raining at Fire Mountain this weekend.

There won't be any summers the way people under about 40 remember them for another 10 years or so.
