Lonely from Alabama

Post by RainbowFlavoredSorrow » Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:42 am

I haven't met any other burners from Alabama yet. I'm in south AL and going to go to BM 2011 no matter what it takes. 2009 was my first burn and it changed my life and gave me something that mattered, now if I'm depressed and lonely I can think about the only place I've ever felt like I belonged. I'm trying to start early with saving up $ and planning. I have no ride out there. If someone has space in their vehicle, I could fly in to any city and would be greatful for a ride into and out of BRC, don't neccesarily have to camp with you. I want to take my roommate also, so if someone is going to have room for two people and a minimal amount of gear we should make plans. I can provide money for gas or whatever you want, but I can't drive and don't have a car of my own. Anyway now that that is out of the way, nice to be here. Haven't stopped wishing to be back in BRC since the minute I left.

Hey there, welcome to...STOP THAT! Heh!

RFS...stay in the loop here. It's a little early for folks to make commitments this far out. You are sure to have better luck securing your logistics in the spring and early summer. Just stay committed to going!

Knock knock...
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Hola amigo, welcome to the beach!

You might consider trying to get a gamblers cheap flight deal to Reno...try signing up on the bigger and medium sized casino websites...maybe they allow this online nowadays, recession and all (usually you need to go inside in person and sign up with an ID, also worth it to do if you can, when you hit reno)..."the players clubs", those send all sorts of ridiculous offers...sometimes cheap flights

southwest airlines, they are the cheapest in the region..southwest air credit card, that s who does a good free flight for first time card holders.

call VIP services at the big reno casinos, tell them you intend to show up with 5k (i am serious, not a joke) and you want fair or reasonable flight prices...all of the casinos have 'hosts" and they work at players clubs, VIP services, they have various names but are all the same thing, professional hosts (asskissers) to bring in new players/gamblers.

hope that helps, and agin, if you have decent credit there's a credit card offer i know about, free southwest flight, round trip anywhere they fly...the ccard has a $59 annual fee but it works out, they give two bags free, i'm gonna clobber them with a round trip to hawaii (i hope, lol) midwinter...snow gets old after a while!

somafm.com try that, it's the free online BM radio station...schweet tunes of all types!

i was told i can buy a gizmo that plugs into the head phone jack and the fm band of a home stereo will play the music (i'll try finding it at Rshack soon)

~see ya soon~
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!

Hay There! The 51 other weeks in the year are a long time to feel out of place. Find a way to make where you are more like "home"
Best wishes and keep doing the footwork to c'mon back.

Hey RFS. The other 51 weeks a year can be a little lonely, but you might be surprised at the number of burners and burn curious right in your own back yard. I would suggest reaching out. Maybe start here:http://regionals.burningman.com/us_al.html

You could also start doing your own thing if you don't get anywhere with the regional list. The last two towns that I lived in didn't really have any organized groups of burners, so we started Facebook/Google groups. It takes a little bit of time, but I'm guessing that by next summer you could have a nice little posse of Bama burners.

Thanks for the (all though somewhat repetative :p) welcome guys. I know I will get there in 2011. I'll keep hanging out around here and counting down the days.

Repetitive? You don't think that we cut and paste and say the exact same thing char for char over and over to every single new person that comes with almost strangely robotic autistic like behavior every time, do you?

They were having fun with jkisha's signature welcome (JS did you start this? Time to drop it OK? lol, all in good fun but...JK was at BM in prehistoric times, ya know what I'm sayin', look it up if you doubt...)

Anyhow...the regionals thing suggested by SO can be amazing. I don't know much about Alabama but something must be possible. You can also sign up for neighboring states regionals list, anything close or semi close...they usually have more going on than one regional burn!

You could become more comfortable with not feeling at home anywhere.
Then you'll feel more comfortable everywhere.

I think I have to go to Huntsville to pick up a pair of andirons made from massive connecting rods.
Maybe I can teach you to drive?

There is a regional in atlanta, and there are some highly educated people in huntsville, if that helps.
