how much space

Post by Pawi » Fri Jul 09, 2004 5:05 pm

This is my first trip to burningman and I'm renting a car and I want to give as many people a ride to BM as I can. To work out how many people I can give a ride to I need to know how much space the stuff you take with you takes I know that 12 gallons of water tales up about 3 cubic feet of space but what about the rest. The car I've rented has about 39 cu. ft with the back seats up idea and around 70 cu. ft with the back seats down.

Thanks.

man, i have found that one car can barely take enough stuff for a couple, and the other part of the couple usually drives another car. -(with stuff).

being that your traveling here, you'll no doubt not have a project to offer up, so your saving space there. but to be honest, my wifes car gets loaded down just with food, costumes, water and suplies, and it leaves her room for herself in the drivers seat only.

if the people that will ride with you have other means of getting their stuff out to the playa, then you can have some guests ride along. but i'd be safe to estimate that you'll have enough room for 2 total people, and all your gear.

i hope you have fun. please pack smartly.

I drive a 1-ton dually 4-door pickup with a 28-foot flatbed trailer behind it. And I don't have room for everything.
If I was gonna rent a car to go to BM, it would say "U-Haul" on it...

I've spent this year cutting down/out as uch stuff as I can. Even the trailer side rack weigh about 60lb. Traded them in for more web belting.

I've only been able to fit two in a good sized reserve gas tank, FWIW.

My very first year we fit three people plus gear into a rented SUV. That's back when we lived on gronala bars and didn't do much in the way of costumes. No bikes of course either.

Well if you're stuck with the car, short of getting a U-Haul truck, you could rent those storage containers that fit on top of the car. Good luck!
