What do you like best about your BM Regional Program?

Post by moonrise » Thu Dec 02, 2010 8:21 pm

~My Reno, Nevada Burning Man Regionals Contact Program is fairly active~

I enjoy the announcements of reasonably priced plays, fire performances, classes, parties, events, fundraisers, the banter and chatter regarding daily life as a burner in the default world and the advantage of asking a question and receiving an answer from another burner...

These are only a fraction of the favorites that come to mind...there will be more to add as time moves on.

Where is your BM Regional and what do you like best about it?
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!

I'm not real heavily involved yet and I don't think we do anything but have monthly MnGs but I like meeting people and talking/planning.

I don’t do any Burning Man Regionals, after burns or any other Burning Man-Lite events. I go to Burning Man……everything else seems like a waste of time.
How do I get a hold of you?

You just contact the mayor's office. He has a special signal he shines in the sky; it's in the shape of a giant cock.

I find stuff I like and go, some are just $3!
Many are free type byob...you'd be surprised!
The annoucements of meteor showers last month was super cool..moon likes those ya' know!

I'm looking forward to an upcoming class at NV Museum of Art.

Much of the stuff on my announce list does not make the newspapers, but it's newsworthy to a burner.

If you're in the SF/Bay Area, I'm sure it's a different story but nevertheless, I bet there's some good stuff flowing through that wire! Heh heh...it being ground zero and all...I guess Reno is ground zero #2, hahaha...

The farther away, the more important a regional is to some I am guessing, even if just a M & G, or a network of burners you can email. Just my .02!

Just the reminders alone were helpful, in addition to JRS...of course.
Stuff like don't forget your whatchamacallit and be you might want to try this or that etc...

My feeling exactly. Though my partner does hit the LA Decompression.

flatlander, I'm not sure why you think everything other than Burning Man is a waste of time. I'm sure you have good reasons.

I am able to pick and choose a handful of interesting things from my Regionals list.

Also, I posted this in open discussion and realized afterwords it should be in Regionals, woops.
Maybe a kind Moderator will read this and move it to Regionals, Duh! on my part!

jkisha, I'm looking forward to a root beer float! I'll do my best to arrive armed with some ice, ok?

I like the SF events, because it gives us the opportunity to annoy San Francisco non- burners year round. Trust me! They look forward to that last week in August, just as much as we do.

The folks who go to Interfuse and post on the Midwest Burners elist seem to love the event, as well as Compression event HullabalU. I've read a lot of positive posts about the other member created events/parties as well. Don't see how getting together with your friends and doing things together can be considered a waste of time.

I am not plugged in yet, and for some reason it seems to make the most sense to get to the playa for the big event first, although there are plenty of people who participate in regional events and haven't yet been able to go to BM.

I almost have a feeling that just buying my ticket to attend the main event and forgetting about it for the rest of the year would cheapen what the event stands for (or what I simply imagine it to stand for.) But... maybe BM serves different people in different ways and making a once yearly camping trip and participating in whatever way they can for that one week is all some people need from this culture. <shrug>

TomServo From what I've read written by the "perfect San Franciscans" these days in the SF Chronicle and SF Bay Area publications, in comments sections, regarding BM news articles, all I have to say is right on! They seem to bash BM and yet most have probably never been. Poor saps. If only they would try.

JStep, I have a feeling you'll be very, very popular! Both on playa and in your Regionals. I've been taught one of the ideals of BM is to spread a bit of a better lifestyle beyond just that one week.

(I don't wish to get into the backstory caused by the whole LLC vs non-profit, none of my biz but it exists and losing control is probably the main reason The Hat hasn't gone non-profit, yet. Hopefully in time that can be sorted out)
