I think its safe to say, that most people in here are anti war. But certain information simply needs to be kept secret...for the sake of our troops and us. As fucked up as that may sound. Its a given, that politicians are scumbags..both left and right, but jeapordizing innocent people, by exposing their shit to people who are crazy enough try and kill us...is reckless.
anything worth doing is worth overdoing..

perhaps you should read the thread.
Eric wrote:That about covers it for me. I've plonked Neon & I'm going back to my "no political discussions on the internet if I can avoid it" policy. I only looked here because I read most of Fishy's posts.
And, exit thread.

These are sites such as gas plants in Russia, etc. Most of the sites are not in the US. There is no political purpose served here, at least in the context of domestic US politics. An attack on these sites would have global consequences. This isn't about "truth". This is about vandalism. He (Assange) is no different than the "demonstrators" I would see in Europe would would simply walk through the business district of town smashing all the windows and setting fire to all the vehicles. It accomplished absolutely nothing. It was simply being destructive for the sake of it.In a disclosure of some of the most sensitive information yet revealed by WikiLeaks, the website has put out a secret cable listing sites worldwide that the U.S. considers critical to its national security. U.S. officials said the leak amounts to giving a hit list to terrorists.
That is basically what Assange is, an enabler of vandalism on a global scale that could get a lot of innocent people killed for no reason. He isn't any kind of a hero but we have neutered ourselves of any ability to do anything about it. He should be arrested just for being stupid. They would have done that 50 years ago.
Geekster, a lot of people don't seem to view Assange in the same light, including Amnesty International who awarded Wikileaks with their New Media Award last year for dealing with human rights abuses in Kenya.
http://www.editorsweblog.org/newsrooms_ ... tional.php
As far as the sites critical to national security those working with Wikileaks have pointed out that they deliberately removed details of names and locations from the secret list. The majority of the places on the list doesn't seem like it would be too dificult for anyone to figure out. There are no military installations on the list.
Included are:
Communication cables running all over the world
Major port hubs
Critical sea lanes
Various pipelines crossing Eurasia
Mines
Pharmaceutical companies in Europe
Most of these things seem pretty intuitive and I would think that anyone planning something to harm our country or the world wouldn't have too difficult of a time coming up with themselves.

If my memory is correct Wikileaks has operated on a budget of $200,000 a year. I'll have to go back and research, but am out of time for now.

Granted some of this is no brainer stuff, but still we don't have to hand them a ready made target list.SilverOrange wrote:

I hope the Swedes prosecute him with no mercy. Sabotaging a condom? Seriously? Fucking despicable scumbag.

I don't know if I would automatically believe the charges against him.
It seems a bit too convenient.

Umm... he's not a U.S. citizen, so I'm not sure the term "traitor" really applies.Kinetic V wrote:I simply hope that history chooses not to smile on him and that my great grandchildren learn about him in the same breath as other famous traitors of the United States.

Why do you feel the need to announce that you're 'plonking' me? Am I supposed to feel bad?
Basically.. if you're talking about me in threads that I didn't even post in, you're probably a bit obsessed and you SHOULD ignore what I say.
It's better for both of us. You obviously can't handle the truth, and I don't need to deal with rubbish from pro-war imbeciles.
Win/win, ya know?

I like him for the most part, though I don't care much for his son, Rand.
What frustrates me, however, is this whole breed of folks out there with little to no political knowledge, save for a few Alex Jones & Ron Paul videos they've seen... and now they're "experts" on all facets of political discourse.
I'm sure you know the type.

I don't post things because I believe that they are the absolute truth. I post them because I believe that they should be considered.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

We were taken into a war on a lie. That is true, but the soldiers fighting for that lie didnt start the war. And to put their lives in danger, because you dont agree is fucked up. How do you feel about the vietnam vets getting spit on, when they came home? Were in a fucked up age, when certain truths need to be hidden....at least for now. That pastey little fuck just wanted attention. Remember Mr.Addis?jkisha wrote:I agree totally with Michael Moore's position on this.can't sit still wrote:Michael Moore has weighed in on Wikileaks;

To my knowledge there were NO military secrets or strategies released by Wiki Leaks, just a bunch of embarrassing information about how undiplomatic are diplomats really are. This is clearly a matter of freedom of the press, NOT national security under the guise of "it will harm the troupes".TomServo wrote:We were taken into a war on a lie. It all is! Were trying to wind these wars down, and leaks from paleface only incite the muslim population. I already know my government is a bunch of fuckwads! I dont need Wikileaks to tell me! The Muslim population you are worried about Wiki Leaks exciting are already excited just by the fact that there are CHRISTIANS still alive anywhere in the world. If you think Wiki Leaks or any cartoon or anything else coming from the west is making things worse, you are wrong. It already is as bad as it gets...you think treating the Muslim fanatics with kid gloves is going to get us out of the war in Afghanistan??? How naive.TomServo wrote:It all is!
