WELCOME!!
Many here will share their, mostly helpful 2 cents.
Has your room mate ever been?
Prepair for weather extremes: hot, dry, comfortable to cool to cold at night, wind, dust etc.
Read as much as you can on eplaya. Ask questions. Some may give you snark, which is usually in jest. Others will be very helpful. Don't forget to read the survival guide.
You'll have a blast.

Oooooo...I, too, love camping in the desert. Most deserts have life. The only life in this patch of earth is that which we bring...the rest of the time it's mostly an ancient, alkali lake bed.
Be prepared!
Be prepared!
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

For $400 per month, I hope I am.
I get more and more excited, as I read all the posts on here! I just hope this doesn't interfere with my teaching schedule.

Welcome aboard, Ansgard! Any chance that's a Scandinavian name -- maybe Old Norse? You would not be the first of "us" here.
A friend of mine is a teacher, but he has this clever trick of working strictly as a Substitute. This is unrealistic for most teachers, but it gives him unlimited freedom to take days off as he pleases (and can afford).
Thank You Elliot! Im was born in Germany, and as far as I know, my name is German. Right now, I am sort of substituting, to get aquainted with the students and other teachers. I teach Physical Education. I will ask around, once I get more aquanted with the other teachers.Elliot wrote::D

Ah yes, could very well be a German name as well. Trade and migration between Scandinavia and The Continent goes back thousands of years. And most of it peacefully -- if we gloss over a couple hundred years of pillaging by my dastardly forefathers, the Vikings.
One suggestion that may not have been mentioned yet: Go to the main Burning Man web site and sign up for Jack Rabbit Speaks -- the Burning Man e-mail newsletter.
