Bringing money to Burning Man?

Post by Iberostar » Sun Jul 11, 2004 10:32 am

This will be my first trip to Burning Man. I've read some posts that mention ice for sale and maybe coffee in the center camp. I thought I would ask if people have things for sale there? I thought I would ask. Thanks!

No. No sales. Also, you can bring your own ice and coffee.

Thanks for the reply! Planning to bring my own! I was just a little confused over some of the posts. I've been going over the posts and lists planning my trip on what to bring and what not to bring. It's always better to ask someone who has been there.

They sell coffee and ice at center camp. Officially, nothing else is sold by the ORG or by the participants. Unofficially, I have seen people sell extra gas and such. You can also hop on the bus and ride into Gerlach to buy gear if you find you're missing anything.

So.. plan to bring everything you need, but be prepared with some handy cash. You'll want to have that with you on the trip anyway just in case.

Being the paranoid guy I am, I usually keep an extra credit card plus a little cash hidden deep in my car somewhere, my wallet hidden somewhere else in a secure spot, and a ziplock bag with about $20 for ice in some easily accessible location. This way, if someone sees me grabbing cash and decides to take what's left, they only get the rest of the $20. If someone actually finds my wallet, I can still get home.

I've never actually had anything stolen in 3 years, but I get a little weird when it comes to actually being able to go home.

Always bring emergency cash. Bail money, tow money, medical emergency. You never know what you're particular emergency will be, if you knew in advance, it wouldn't be an emergency.

You REALLY need to go to the BM web site and start reading from page one.

It's FULL of information (i.e. CLUES)

Unofficially there are a lot of other things you can buy for money. Just be sure not to buy them from Feds or vice squad.
