The walk was good n sunny; the burn barrel was a success!...my holiday treat to myself (and the neighbors)...I need to cut some designs in the sides. For now, I just stabbed about 8 holes in the bottom; the trash can was a freebie too. I wish I had stored more firewood under the shack though...don't wanna be tempted to burn good stuff...furniture and such, LOL

yup, stay on the treadmill, maybe it can be hooked up to a power converter, LOL, the more chunk you burn the more money you'll save on electricity, hee hee...

I got back from my vacation yesterday. Today I addressed the problem I was essentially out of food, so went to the grocery store and bought a bunch of healthy food-- fruit, vegetables, etc. Now I got to make myself eat it instead of going to McDonalds...!
As far as economic fitness-- I ordered a bunch of books on the Earthship home design. (I want to build the thing, since, in the long run, one would save money. I just need to figure out how to afford to buy land, various components, and where to live while building the thing!)

Uh! No Mcfuck ups! BAS! (well maybe an ice cream cone)
Earthship home? Hm, so much cheap land out there...choose wisely.
Maybe Gerlach? No medical clinic etc etc etc soon though.

I'm not sure where I first heard of the Earthships, it might have been here on ePlaya somewhere. I'm kind of tied to Dane County, Wisconsin, since I have ten years in with the State, and here is more or less central for friends and relatives. Dane County is relatively expensive, being the State Capital, home of the UW, etc..

Earthship & Mike Reynolds , good stuff. I like the retro fitting myself, seems more affordable. Choose land wisely, the gubbermint forced a Santa Barbara self sufficient neighborhood, built far away from the city, in the 70's to put in all the utlities they were trying to get away from! Lawsuits galore, the city fucked them over real good. Now it's a mix, many are still off the grid but now carry a mortgage to pay for the forced utilities. They claimed it was for fire etc safety, health bla bla, liars. Hopefully, pre-planning will prevent this crap for others.

Snowing with no end in sight, sure wish I could still ski...powder, uh, I miss that.
3+ feet of snow on the roof, natural insulation,
, also fig jam, did my burn barrel...I think I'll light that up again, needs some side cuts but it's working well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oatmeal and apples for breakfast, stretches and maybe a snowy walk, that's the plan anyway. Maybe squash soup for dinner, yum, pressure cooker is super fast for cookin' squash, especially the hard winter squashes.
Ok, it's back to work for me.
Well, I am glad I don't plan to officially start until after the holidays...
(Too many temptations at work, and I was feeling kind of down since I was going back to work after a [mostly] nice vacation. The cookies and other junk were really good.)
I need to make some time this weekend and work out a real diet. Figuring out what to eat and when-- I've done it before, and it is really annoying to set up, but it seems to be what works.
moonrise-- yeah. That is something I will need to look into. I'm not certain how to find out, but, until I get some debts out of the way and improve my finances, actually buying some land and building is just hypothetical.
Hey! wtg Elliot! I'm gearing up mentally... ticked the "no tobacco" box on my health insurance for 2011. I think I bought my last cigarettes this week. Going to get the bikes ready I think this weekend. I have an electrified mountain bike, and a nice old ten speed that hasn't seen much of the outdoors... electric for commute, and ten speed for other errands. I have had a few periods in my life of bike only, and bike mainly, lifestyle, and I really liked the way I felt about things when that was my way. I'm getting back to it. Work is going to help some by giving me a lot more physical tasks with dept. re-alignments. I will be doing big resets in plumbing... vanities, toilets, etc., also I'll also be working in flooring... those boxes of laminate are heavy. I need to be flexible, and mindful, so I don't get hurt. I look forward to getting stronger.Elliot wrote:![]()
Elliot, woohooo...
BAS, enjoy the holiday, if you figure out an easy food diet please share.
Elorrum, it's great when you can incorporate exercise while at work. I wish I could ride my bike to work but it is just to damn cold here in the a.m.
daratheresa, don't sweat it. What's in the past can't be redone so just move forward. It's hard with little ones in the house and you have been kind of snowed in, right?
To everyone have a good fit week if you can and if you don't, just say "fuck it" enjoy the holiday and get back on it next week...
wow I am in an incredibly good mood this morning
I keep rambling about the hiking trails at Anderson Marsh State Historic Park. This is at the trailhead – the historic Ranch House itself. The lawn in the foreground hosts an annual bluegrass music festival and other events. The house itself is a museum and also hosts events.
Lucky420-- I don't think that there IS an easy diet! What I need to do is figure out how I calculated out daily calories and translated it into food about ten years ago when I last made a serious attempt to lose weight and get in better shape. (I this part of it was from one of two books I now have on my computer desk. I've got to get myself, the books, and some motivation in one place long enough to work on the problem.)
Elliot-- the picture of the leaves is really nice and better than any I have ever taken!
I've been baking, which means sampling. However, I've been skipping full meals. Not sleeping right, I wake up at four thirty and stay awake. Bleh. Cold and wet outside, gloomy and chilly indoors and mentally I've checked out for the holidays. I Just Don't Care this week.
I have seen a nutritionist, she gave me a chart, and a book, with portions and all the stuff about carbs and fats and proteins. I gave the book away because I have others, and I ignore the chart on the side of the fridge. I can work around my food allergies; I could teach a class with the knowledge I've picked up over the years. Been to the HAWC repeatedly. I know how to design an eating plan. I know how much sodium I should have, and how to calculate it. I am supposed to be on 1500 a day. The problem is, that isn't much food. Hunger is my companion when I try that. I can shrink my stomach, but it expands readily. If we go on vacation, I eat well, I mean, what's the point otherwise?
Elliot: Nice pics.
AntiM: If you think you're hungry on 1500 calories, try 1200. But 1500 calories a day is a relative number. The daily calorie number is usually calculated based on weight, height, age, amount of exercise (activity) you do. When I'm hungry and I know eating will take me over my allowance, I go for a walk and burn the extra calories I'm planning on eating. That way, I can eat more and not go over my actual allowance, and don't feel hungry.
I will say the holidays make it harder, and we've had rain here every day for a week with no end in site, which certainly kills the motivation for going out for a walk.
In any event, health, exercise and diet are not easy to get a handle on; The trick is figuring out a wat to do it that fits your lifestyle and personality. Nobody can tell you what's right for you better than you.
Who turned the lights off/on? Haha, my power started to go on and off for days before eplaya went on the blink. I survived, without blowing it too much, phew! Thank dawg for gas appliances and my BM gear. I tell ya' I should hook up a generator (someday $$$$ ouch
) to my panel box.
Did ANYONE get to see the lunar eclipse?
Lucky420, where'd ya go?
No slacking, haha.
I'm going for a walk before it gets DARK, cold and ICY, grrr...today signals only 89 1/2 days of old man winter to go, yeah!
I'm guessing our collective creaky bones will be SO HAPPY come springtime....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sweet potatoes, yams, winter squashes; all in season, yum!
A pressure cooker works wonders on those hard winter squashes
fast and tasty, I call it slow/fast food...garlic, evo, parsley OR cinnamon, nutmeg, honey, either is easy and gourmet.

moonrise,
me slacking? Ha, no I've been really good, hitting the treadmill everyday (except for last friday) for the last 2 weeks. I think that is why my mood has been better lately. Xmas weekend I'm going to have to substitue the treadmill with outdoor walking because I will be up in reno visiting the family...oh well petey mcpants will love it.

Appreciate the reminder about Poison Oak, but I'm pretty sure these are Blackberries. I've been eating blackberries along that stretch of trail every autumn for eight years. (But I grant, I generally don't know an oak from a carrot.) Now... the thorns, those can be quite annoying!theCryptofishist wrote:Leaves of three, leave me be.
Don't eat the berries, Elliot.
@Lucky, don't forget Petey McPants' vest! (it does look good on him, I think) Enjoy Reno...my walks up here have been at dark and the xmas lights are in full blown, LOL, kinda nice to look at.
@Elliot, blackberries...yum! Tons of Vit C..get 'em while you can, it's winter and the birds will be on the hunt too!
I'm feeling good from my walks ("do-acracy" can be a powerful montra)
Cold feet from the icy roads actually helps chill the foot nerve pain (summer swimming in the lake also does the job)
To everyone...Eat, drink, burn and be merry! ("portion control, come in, portion control? are you there?"
sheesh, faint answer...hm, might have to duct tape my hands to a chair!)
PS, Homiesinheaven made a hot link on the below thread; satellite picture, fun to zoom in on BRC 2010
(Homiesinheaven sure likes photography, gracias HiH!)

the past few weeks have been kicking my ass. i hate living so far north with so little sunshine, it's killer. but as of the other day it is slowly moving toward more light in a day and my motivation/energy levels are picking up to match.
managed to get some serious yoga in yesterday. shoveling snow is a good workout, too, if hard on the back. currently chomping on some dark chocolate granola with soy milk. mmmmm.

Yeah! I hit my goal weight today (150lbs.) which means I go from 1200 calories a day for losing to 1890 calories a day to maintain. Just in time for the holiday meals and cocktails!

@daratheresa...my .02 but you might want to look up soy, it's actually reputed to be NOT healthy...ancient monks used it for a condiment, only fermented soy sauce, temari, and miso are safe foods. (maybe some others but not sure) soy is cheap, can grow many crops (and ruin the land) wessun and krisco [mispelled intentionally] do NOT want this getting out, bastards are trying to have soy clasified as a "food" and hide it in all sorts of food! also, health food store owners are befuddled, they said everyone asks for it, we don't know what to do, we are aware but? anyhow, soy is toxic, 4xs harder than plastic, westerners and even japan have taken it too far, huge instances of stomach cancer etc. some will argue for it, i won't. It has some prescription drug medical uses for women but otherwise, yikes! i switched to almond or rice milk, disgestive issues went *poof* within days. learned this after health insurance spent 5k on my "over 40 check up" and calif docs explained. google +soy +critic. sorry to report this but the info is out there.
my cali docs also said americans eat too much fiber, causes IBS, these docs are cool, some go to TTITD,
they even said almond and rice milks have too much fiber for some peeps. sorry to sound preachy and long winded, just trying to help.
@jkisha, you doin' goooood...congrats! eat some junk for me, eh? here's to ya!
