It made me really happy when I discovered it- it's nice to know more people feel like I do about what this holiday has become.

It also helps people understand my "I hate obligatory gifts" sentiments.

Wish I could be home to see the nieces and nephews open their presents.

is it really Christmas you hate?

or your own fucked up life?

have my own fucking problems with the holidays, really trying not to fuck it up for others just because my fucking attitude fucking sucks.

Don't really hate Christmas (even though it's not my holiday), and, other than the lack of a job & financial stress my life is pretty fucking brilliant. An amazing boyfriend (24 years in a week), an amazing wife (24 years in 2 months), great family & friends.....

What I don't like is the social requirement to give everyone "something", just because it's "_______________" (Christmas or birthday or housewarming or anniversary or whatever). I'm opposed to all obligatory gift giving- I don't do it, and don't want them. Even on the playa I only give out a few personal ones.

I love giving unbirthday presents- real gifts, given because I'm thinking of someone. I hand forge things for people because I want them to know I'm thinking of them, and I want them to think of me when I see them. They never get given near a holiday.

Don't confuse being opposed to Commercializationmas with being a Scrooge. They're not the same things.

And to all a good night :)

I don't hate xmas either. It would be nice if people kept that goodwill feeling all year long. Just hate the commercialism and what's with the "merry christmas" vs. "happy holidays" crap, at least someone's not telling you to fuck off.

When my kids were little I went into debt or overspent every xmas. So glad I don't have to do that anymore. Two of them are in college and I help them all year. I bought their BM tickets last year and will do so again this year. We will get together and have good food, games and conversation. It does feel a little weird because this is the first time I have not bought presents but the relief of not having to worry about how to afford everything is a great gift.

goathead, if I could work for you I would (really). I hope that you do have a Merry Christmas and find time to spend with your family...

Eric I agree on most points, I hate the commercialism of any of the holidays. I prefer giving gifts to people I love just because. I love Christmas season for the reason it's presented to me all these years. I will give birthday and christmas gifts to my young niece and teenage nephew however, and at times my brother and sister. It seems I'm always in financial ruins during this time of year...it never fails. and although I'm alone this year I'm ok with it because to me christmas isn't about shopping and shit. It means so much more.

Peace and Love to everyone.

p.s I have to work on Christmas day too, my mom is in a nursing home so I'll visit her when I get home and bring her some goodies and eggnog and all the love and hugs she wants.

I dunno, Eric. I find that video to be preachy and not much fun. And it's not even accurate. Christmas didn't start as a celebration of peace and love, it started as an alternative to Saturnalia. Which was a holiday of drinking and eating and gift exchange. [It also had a pretty weird aspect. In Roman households the lowliest slave was master of the house for a day--it was a sort of backwards day. But I wonder what he did--would he take some sort of revenge on the power structure, or did he (or she) keep things within bounds knowing that the power would be gone tomorrow. I suppose it varied, but I'd like to hear stories as possible tales of resistance.] Anyway, the fact that Christmas is a festival of presents and drunken idiocy doesn't bother me. I think you need a festival of light in the darkness of the winter solstice. I do mind the mindless present giving and the going into debt. But I think that Christmas should become more involved in its pagan roots and forget about Christ who was born in spring/summer (when shepherds would be out with their flocks) or in September/October (when the census took place.) So, yeah, Christmas is a crock.

It hit the right trigger for me- I've been singing bits of it for days now. Accurate- not even close. A good scream against commercialmas? For me, you betcha!

That's my main issue with the whole holiday. The other is political, so we'll just leave that out.

You know your right, I just need to change the title and lyrics a bit

This is why Apple Computer is Bullshit.

Actually could insert just about any computer name in there.

Commercialism, wonder how many burners go into debt every year just making it to the BRC?

Sometimes people need something to kick them in the ass to spend some time with friends and loved ones, whether it is the BRC or it Christmas.

If its not your thing Don't Do it.

Why sit around sniveling about other people maybe wanting to enjoy their life a little?

Reminds me of rednecks bitching about the BRC

Oh can you feel the love. ;)

Hi, guys, been away for a while, "real" life called, came back to wish everyone a merry and or happy winter festivity of your choice.

Distract yourself from the grim weather with whatever sick crap gives your heart joy. See ya!

Really goathead. I may disagree with Eric on the particular piece, but I certainly feel he has a right to dissent from a cultural tradition that hijacks the bloody country for 2 to 4 weeks every year. People can enjoy thier lives a little without hammering other people with different methods of enjoyment over the head. We don't force rednecks to come to the event. Eric (and a number of the rest of us) are in the Belly of the Beast whether we like it or not.

The Number 2011
2011 is a Prime Number.

In the Aeon Flux television series and film, 99% of the world's population is wiped out by a mysterious virus in the year 2011.

In K. A. Applegate's Remnants book series, 2011 is the year life on Earth becomes extinct after a 73-mile wide asteroid nicknamed "The Rock" impacts Portugal.

In the Sarah Connor Chronicles: Judgement Day is predicted to take place in 2011

Happy New Year.

I don't care! I like Christmas and I like giving and getting presents. It's just the religious aspect that has crept into this festive time that I don't like.
