Hello from Ohio~

Post by Vertigoat » Wed Dec 22, 2010 7:55 pm

Hey there! I'm Jessi, hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio and I'm hoping to make 2011 my first year at Burningman. I've wanted to go ever since I was 16 and caught a showing of Better Living Through Circuitry on the Documentary channel haha. I'm 22 years old and about to graduate with a degree in Anthropology, and currently work at a place well-described as the Costco of booze.

I've been reading and looking into BM for what feels like forever, but still feel totally lost haha. I know there is an Ohio/Cincinnati burner group, but so many of the online sources for them seem pretty dead, and I always find it difficult introducing myself to already established communities (one of those slight social anxieties I still havent overcome sadly)

But I look forward to getting to know people here, and, hopefully seeing some in 2011!

Tank Girl is pretty fantastic, I'm with you on that.

And lucky420, I'm pretty used to snark :D My group of friends tends to be pretty snarky sometimes, so I'm not gonna suddenly get super offended by things that are said. :)

Welcome hun! This pasted year was my first BM and my first burn ever. And I am addicted. At times it will feel overwhelming, uneasy, scary and thrilling. But once you step out the truck and get your first whiff of playa air, it all disappears.

A few words of advise, read the guide till you can almost recite it, read eplaya (its full of more info than you could imagine possible), go as if its a camping trip and nothing more (though its so much more more more!), and don't bring trinkets that everyone will toss.

Oh and let the playa take it where it will. My best experiences I just happened to run into (sometimes literally LOL).

And if you need help, just ask.
We break to remind us how to mend.

Hi Vertigoat!

There's a few of us Burners tucked here and there around the area. some actually get on the board from time to time. Most of the folks I know are in the Louisville area, but there's also the Kentucky/Ohio/Indiana (KOIburners) who are more or less based in Cincy, I think. They used to have a webpage at koiburners.com, but it looks like it's no longer active.

Welcome to the board!

I will! :)

I'm not feeling quite so lost now, I mentioned wanting to attend on facebook, and suddenly had my roommate's friend telling me she's going and already is lining up a van/etc and a group of people. I've never really had things fall into place like that so quickly so I'm taking that as a sign that I need to go!

Hi Vertigoat,

It sounds like things may come together for you just fine. Check 'KOI pound' (Cincinnati) I think they may be using that name more nowdays.

And welcome to eplaya!

Bells isn't the person Vertigoat should worry about, and you know it Nate.

piff..

Any who.. hello Vertigoat, how has 'jungle jims' been? Like others have stated, your local 'burner space' is the KOI Pound ( http://koipound.com ). If you haven't joined any of the official regional lists do so soon. I'd suggest you join all the ones for Ohio (North, South, and athens ) so you don't miss out on anything. You can find links to the email lists here -> http://regionals.burningman.com/regional_directory.html Optionally you could pick up the ones for KY, IN, and MI.

Lastly you are not alone in the heart shaped state. You'll find burners scattered around the state. Along with a lot of people who go to the bm related events, like recycled rainbow. And even more people just like yourself that want to come out to, or are planing on coming to the burn.
Although most of the groups stay with their host cities and don't interact with each other that much. Here is a map for you.

So yeah.. say hello to everyone.
I have a little bit of Savannah with me. Shhh...

Ben was a spammer, the "watch season one blah blah" link in his signature was the giveaway. He's gone. When you quoted his post, you duplicated the link, which is the reason I will go in and edit your comment, to remove the link. I don't expect newbs to catch this without practice, even the oldies fall for it now and then.

Hiya Vertigoat

Welcome Langdon.

If you go into your profile and enable BBCode, quotes and smileys and shit will appear as quotes and smileys and shit, instead of code.

I know a girl in Ohio, but I think she's too worried about the rapture to go to Burning Man.
