People can enjoy thier lives a little without hammering other people with different methods of enjoyment over the head. We don't force rednecks to come to the event. Eric (and a number of the rest of us) are in the Belly of the Beast whether we like it or not.
I have a love/hate relationship with Christmas myself.
At times it is all I can do to keep from ripping someones head off.
But I realize it is my problem.
I try to focus on the good times right now, and try to block-out the nightmares.
In the belly of the beast, just snuggle up and stay warm.
It will pass.

Thank you, the boyfriend is keeping me calm. Not working retail for xmas this year for the first time in over a decade is also a great help. I'm avoiding it as much as possible.goathead wrote:In the belly of the beast, just snuggle up and stay warm.

Hope you have a nice day!

I love the Christmas season too whether I give presents or not. If I never get another Christmas gift, that's ok. I'm all about giving all year round. But for some it is the religious aspect of the season, such as myself. But to each his own. Beliefs or not! Enjoy the season as you see fit! *hugs JK*

Ever hear that saying "love me or hate me, I'm still on your mind?" That sums up my reaction to the anti-Xmas sentiment. I think if Xmas really bothers you that much you're just too caught up in it. Loving and hating are equally full of attachment. I'm an atheist, to hear many people tell it I should be a grumpy grinchy scroogy ass about the whole season, but I'm not. It's just a tradition, it has it's stupid consumerist hijacking and it has it's celebrations of family and togetherness. I am willing to bet a fair majority of people who are really into Burning Man are probably pretty skeptical of conspicuous consumption, whether it's Xmas or birthdays or whatever else.
Let go what you don't like, hold on to what you love, relax, take a deep breath, enjoy life.
Or not, it's your choice!

I wish it was 2-4 weeks to be honest. Retail has stretched it into a true 3 month season. It starts after Labor Day. I'm looking deep in my quiet time tonight to see if I can find my own sense of Christmas, since I am so overwhelmed by the three month juggernaut of sensory pollution at work.theCryptofishist wrote:... a right to dissent from a cultural tradition that hijacks the bloody country for 2 to 4 weeks every year.

what Ellorum said.
Though the Hubby and I are having a nice dinner tomorrow night and snuggling on the couch for a movie.
Best present I could get.

As I sit in my recliner, just getting off an 8 hour shift, and getting ready for a 9 hour shift, I would like to wish all my new eplaya family a Merry Christmas! Stay in and snuggle with the one you love. Read christmas stories to your children before nestling them into their beds. Visit shut ins so they won't be alone. Pray for our men and women in the service overseas.
Celebrate in the way that brings you joy!
All my love,
Mary Ann

I usually love x-mas. Time off from work to visit my family and spend time with my "kids" (cats). But this year I just can'y get into the spirit. most of the month has been inthe high 70's to 80's and I can't visit with my family. its just not Christmas.
I am not catholic, despite my upbringing, so it hold no other meaning than appreciating those in your life on a day you all share together. unfortunately, noone is available to share it with me.

We break to remind us how to mend.
After too many years of Christmas being the big finger pointing at me marking my failure in comparison to the (false) popular image, I've decided to make my own Christmas and be grateful for the family and friends I have. I try to give with a mindful and genuine spirit, try to steer clear of the acts of monetary hemorrhage and regurgitation that are promoted. It isn't obligatory, but it's a nice touchstone and reminder to contact friends and family not often in my life day to day. I reach out to people I have conflict with, and try to end the year on a good note. Merry Christmas to all you eplayans!
