Traditional Eastern-European Jewish cooking is a good reminder of why it sucks to be poor in a crappy climate.

now Sephardic Jews, they get to eat good!

My employer is sidestepping the holiday 8 by making us take another day off this week. Not an extended weekend mind you. I get Tuesday off.

It was a good day. I got to visit an old friend from school. It was sort of a surprise. He invites me every year, and I was very slow in responding this year. I showed up and it was a nice surprise. Two dinners in one day wasn't expected by me, but I grazed with gratitude. I threw together a last minute gift of batteries, daylight florescent bulbs, and some wind up toys that are always fun.

My brother in law made a superb, say it again, superb, roast beast. Seared and then slow cooked in the bbq. I contributed some roasted pears which were a good pairing heh heh. Nephew kicked in with a beautiful squash risotto.

Beings I was working over the holidays my christmas dinner consisted of a Healthy choice turkey w/gravy mashed potatoes with cheese and bacon, and mixed veggies of broccoli and carrots. I had banana bread too. However on Monday I'll be preparing a small prime rib! But the spirit of the holiday was in my heart. :D
