I have not but am seriously considering going on a whole-sale Plonking spree.
If you care to elaborate on your reasons to Plonk or not to Plonk please post here.

no, I have never plonked anyone, at least that I can remember.
I think I did once, for a day, but changed my mind.
Even if they're the dumbest ass-hat there is, it's just as easy to ignore what they post.
But, I've seen even people with names that are just letters and/or numbers, post some interesting stuff.
For me, it'd be almost cowardly, to plonk someone.
I don't imply, it is cowardly of anyone else to do so. I just don't feel threatened or whatever, by anyone.
And I get greater pleasure (If only in my little mind) of posting around someone, just to ignore them.
Now, I know I have been, and am plonked.
Well, if they can't address me directly, to make sure it's not a mis-understanding..........foogem'

It's not an act of agression to plonk...it's just like not listening to Dr. Laura, or not watching the Macnamara? guy on t.v. news... same as not visiting certain threads to avoid getting bothered. Certain folks stick to some threads, and I don't go there. Others are more omniverous. I guess I don't mentally disregard things well, so I choose to visually avoid them. just one or two at this point in time. no big deal.

This contains the essence of my impending decision to plonk or not to plonk.Elorrum wrote:It's not an act of agression to plonk...it's just like not listening to Dr. Laura, or not watching the Macnamara? guy on t.v. news... same as not visiting certain threads to avoid getting bothered. I guess I am wishfully waiting to see some redeeming posts from those I would potentially plonk.
A Finnish man once told me.... Shit in one hand and wish in the other then see what you got.
Let the plonking begin.
If you are keeping track of the #'s subtract one from the No section of the poll.

I usually don't plonk. I have only plonked one poster here and it's not because I feel threatened, it's more of a self-control issue with me. I have been posting online since the 80's when I dialed into my local BBS with a 300 baud modem, I did the Usenet thing, I was active on IRC. I know that I can be prone to a perverse enjoyment of cascade threads and endless shredding of an opponents fallacious posts. While I have been known to enjoy a continual spanking of the trolls among us, I know it is tiring and annoying to those that have no interest in it. So, when it comes to ePlaya, which I feel is important in some weird way if only to feed my obsession with TTITD, I don't want to be one of the irritants out there encouraging the short sighted or the blatantly antagonistic to continue their bandwidth wasting diatribes.
So I will plonk anyone that just steadfastly refuses to be reasonable... If they want to take it up with me at the ePlaya meetup face to face then we can waste some time there too but there's no need for me to bore everyone else and clutter up the forum with endless dissecting of silly rantings.

No announcing. It would be unproductive to instigate the fall out that doing so would bring.

No plonkage going on here. I think ignoring people is the best thing all around. I think plonking is a personal thing like, "should I wear underwear today or go commando".
What gets me at times are people who go into perfectly great threads and imposing their negative selves or opinions on an apparent innocent comment. It's like people try to purposely ruin a great thread.

Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

I did notice a couple of interesting, nice eplayians had drifted off.
I PM'd both to ask what was up?
One said girl freind issues and has since returned, LOL, he's happier without her and whoopin' it up with new girl freind(s)
The other said eplaya was "too contentious" and I think only posted once since fading away. [plz, come back, the water is ok]

As a moderator, it is my "job" to read every post. So no plonking. I will admit to skimming some threads and mentally ignoring the content by some posters as long as it is not spam or personal information of others.
However, in my pre-moderator days, there was a poster who went out of his way to attack and insult me. We'd had a disagreement and he turned it into a personal challenge. Even if I tried to avoid and ignore him, his posts would leap off the screen at me. Hence the plonk. He is long gone.
Still if you plonk, you see they have posted and are given the option of viewing the post. The temptation is strong.

I agree with jstep. I've never plonked anyone. I can read anything. It's just words that present an idea. Accept, deny or delete. No harm done. Old Chinese saying;

I don't post things because I believe that they are the absolute truth. I post them because I believe that they should be considered.

AntiM, You do a great job. Thank you.
At this point I am actually surprised that the non plonkers slightly out weigh the plonkers. I thought there was less plonking going on here. I thought the divide would be bigger.
Carry on. It is interesting to hear your individual reasons/stories/logic.

I don't plonk-- I can't say whether it is out of some sort of belief everyone might have something worth reading or because I think my curiosity will make it more likely for me to read what's been plonked than what hasn't.
What I do do is skim some posters just to see what's being discussed, and there are whole threads I don't bother reading for one reason or another (a topic I don't have interest in, too much noise and not enough information, etc.)
I feel sorry for Anti-M and other moderators who read everything! That takes a lot of time and dedication. (Thanks for doing such a great job!)

As a point of clarification, I do not maintain plonk status absolutely. If I see a thread where someone has reacted to or addressed the plokee with an intriguing post I feel free to click the "view thread with these users' content" or whatever it says. The plonk just helps me remember to not engage this person, kind of a note to myself that further reactions to or refutations of this person's posts are in all likelihood not going to help anything and probably just cause further dischord and negativity to appear on the board.

I told some one they were plonked. but I read their post annyhoo. then I get them all pissed by commenting about their thread/comment and not answering or quoting them. kinda speak to the plonk cause the face aint listening treatment. kinda works?
Oh and if you get PMd "I guess I'm not as cool as you and the others" or something on that line, use your head and memory (search functions, ect.) and you'll discover a sleazy sock puppet.

This is going to show what a moron I am. How do you plonk somebody? Is it those stupid smily/frowny faces (ignore or disallow contact)? I sure haven't seen a specific button or key that says plonk. Of course, my trouble is if everyone's plonked me, nobody will be able to read this to answer my question. This is a conundrum.
You had it right. Mouse over the smileys below a person's avatar to see their functions. The term plonk is slang and comes from the old Usenet days when a user would "plonk" a posters email address into their newsreaders killfile, which would cause the newsreader to ignore all posts by that person.Dr. Pyro wrote:This is going to show what a moron I am.
