Whats On You're Holiday Reading List?...

Post by Rabbi Dali Rick » Sat Dec 25, 2010 12:09 pm

Ahh, now down too some nice quiet reading during the week long Holiday respite, I've downloaded some light reading to the iReader on my iPhone, to get the weekend started; "The Gun" Philip K. Dick, "My Bondage and My Freedom" Frederick Douglass, "Relativity: The Special and General Theory" Albert Einstein.

I thought I'd go back to reading more books to help kick off a positive replacement of some of those negative return habits, for the New Year.

Just finished The Greatest Show on Earth by Dawkins, now reading 40; A Doonesbury Retrospective. Love me my Doonesbury!

Don't know whats next, usually I spend a couple hours puttering around the bookstore (mainly in the history & non-fiction areas) seeing what grabs my attention.

Just finished "A Place Called Freedom" by Ken Follet. Currently reading "A Brief History of Time..." by Stephen Hawking. The next two in line are "Wild Fire" by Nelson DeMille and "Found Wanting" by Robert Goddard.

I went to get the 40 Doonesbury on 24th after work, sure, traffic, lines, mall... for Doonesdbury ONLY. Sticker SHOCK. ("Wouldn't a Gremlin have been more sensible?") That's gonna have to be delayed gratification. Love my Doonesbury as well, and love the folks I shared it with. I think I'll just dig out my 10 year anthology paperback, and enjoy it again. I think I'll try to get a hold of the Original True Grit novel after I see the latest movie version.

Appetite for Profit

A Visit from the Goon Squad - Jennifer Egan

Nasty Bits - Anthony Bourdain

I got two new cookbooks last night and am rereading A Long Way Down - Nick Hornby, Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs - Chuck Klosterman.

There's a couple more I'm reading but they're also non-fiction and I can't think of the titles.

That's funny!

When I was in basic training in the army, we would buy Kotex pads to tie around our knees and elbows to keep from getting tore up when doing the obstacle course. I wonder if that's in the book?

I didn't like those, at all. Much too much sexual violence for my tastes.

You can show up to eat when I have the money to buy some groceries and make some dinner, right now all the surplus is being hoarding for a BM ticket.

I really enjoy cooking, but it seems to me that whenever I buy cook books I never get to trying even 1/2 the recipes in any book I own; so I stopped buying them and subscribe to Cooks Illustrated on-line. Just seems to be more bang for the buck. (at least for me)

Those are all library books, I don't buy cookbooks (not new ones, anyways).

When I'm out of food I look through my cookbooks and pick recipes and try them, so I do end up cooking a lot from the cookbooks I have.
