If you do the same thing the same way all the time don't expect a different result. After reading AntiM's post...why can't this board revisit the don't delete philosophy? And while we're at it...why not give our current group of moderators....people with proven records that have earned our trust and respect a bit more power and authority to make changes? I see no reason why a thread creator can't have control over their thread. And in this case...this is a Moderator Notes thread after all....if the moderators can't have a say on a thread devoted to their concerns where do they draw any line at all? It's all ridiculous, I say step on some damn toes, pull things back into line and do some housecleaning! It's LONG OVERDUE.

Yup that would do the trick, but AntiM was looking for input - relevant input at that.goathead wrote:Question, can the Mods open a locked thread?
If they want a Serious thread and can open a locked thread, make the thread, lock it, and re-open, post and lock it again, as they need to.
Bitching about thread drift on eplaya, about the same as bitching about a white-out on the playa.

I would support this a great deal, pain though it may be. I think this thread provides a perfect example of when a mod should be able (technically and morally) to delete off-topic posts. To much noise-to-signal makes legit discussion hard to track. There are plenty of threads that are expected/designed/intended to have arguments & wandering conversation.AntiM wrote:If the upgrades come, I think the mods will have more options, and be able to pre-moderate users. That would be useful, anyone who would not play within the guidelines would be placed on post by post moderation. What a pain in the ass. I'd much prefer to have some thread drift, and discuss why frivolity is better left on other threads.

I try to only delete the off the wall comments meant to inflame or attack an individual. Other exceptions would be the completely crazy shit that no one can follow, porn, spam ads for shit for sale, etc. If there is much doubt I usually error on the side of free speech. The CO wrote:I would support this a great deal, pain though it may be. there is only one thread in open discussion that I feel is sacred "if any thread could be called that" is the R.I.P thread.
you mods want a serious thread, go to a serious forum.
ohhhh look, blinky lights......

well, certain types of porn...
kiddie porn, snuff porn and Uniporn for example.
it's a just a Long Hard Appendage, and just because it's attached to a horse does not mean it's meant to be ridden.
dont do it, or i will report you to the Sparklepony Police, and trust me, you dont want to be glitterboarded.

I have no problem with porn (most porn), but the TOS does. "Porn" is also a loose term. Stewart Potter said it best saying: "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it"Risky wrote:You got a problem with porn??mdmf007 wrote: Other exceptions would be the completely crazy shit that no one can follow, porn...

Sure thing! Isn't that what we were talking about? When a large chunk of any given thread turns into a name-calling session/flame war, I'd consider that to be pretty far off topic.mdmf007 wrote:I try to only delete the off the wall comments meant to inflame or attack an individual. Unless it was in the Thunderdome thread.
Hey, we managed to get this back to polite discourse on the subject. Sort of. Go team!

Not to be rude but 2 things come to mind.AntiM wrote:Were this thread down in the eplaya feedback section, then indeed, I would be deleting about half the posts.
1: It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission.
2: I didn't know that you needed permission to be able to make minor changes. And deleting bs posts is minor stuff...it shouldn't take an act of congress to be able to get something done here.
I'm amazed at how this place runs...on my two boards I give moderators power to boot people, delete bs posts, and keep the peace. I've had years of stability as a result....just sayin.

Share Resources & Q&A
I am in the long, tedious process of cleaning out Share Resources forum of stale ride share and wants/needs/offer posts. Since we have newbies, and a number of memory-challenged eplayans, I'd like to remind folks not to post extraneous remarks in SR. Rideshares most especially, please don't reply if you can't offer a ride, direct them to a better place, or help them fine tune their post (early entry, locale, dates).
With ticket sales coming so soon, we'll see a jump in activity. Please play nice.
Thank you, Mod M

Moderator's note: Please do NOT place commercial links in your signature line. I've had to ask several people to remove links to their businesses, or to a business of a friend/family member. This includes links to craigslist, etc. selling your dome, RV, hot cousin's ass.
You may keep links to you art project, camp, blog, and so on. Yes, in the past wedeliver had a link to his RV park, but he let burners stay for free.
There's a fine line and I have to call 'em like I see 'em. If a person is just a spammer with a few posts, I can usually spot them and get them deleted immediately. If they are a burner, I have different courses to consider. A friendly PM with a request, edits, deletions, or give the username to an admin for removal from the board. It all sucks for everyone involved.
No means no, okay?

Moderator's note: the Ticket thread was overloaded with single complaint posts, threads going over the same/similar topics. While I have not deleted any posts or threads, I have done quite a bit of merging and NOT leaving the shadow topics. To find where your posts went, check your profile and "find all posts". I understand the threads may become confusing to read, but seriously, there was so much snark that many of the threads stopped being serious conversations after the first few intelligent comments.
Tickets is one of the forums where silliness is not an asset, therefore, don't be surprised if your witty remarks get shifted to somewhere less... cluttersome.
I let it ride a good long while after the fiasco, but now we need a bit of housekeeping. This is an ongoing process, and no, I pretty much can't reverse it once done.
Thank you.
