Hello...
This will be our 5th year - and I am pretty sure it will be too difficult to get our camping supplies/bedding/costumes/etc. all on the plane - From Atlanta, GA to Reno, NV.
With the new weight limits AND the puddle jumper limmits/issues as well...
Last year (once at the airport) we had to take our suitcase apart and travel the peices seperately and it cost us a TON as well.
I am trying to figure out some clever ways that some east-coasters OR beyond our borders even, get their gear across the country - ride share/container/UPS?
Please let me know if you have some clever tips/ideas for me - I really appreciate it!
Getting Supplies from East US to RNO/BRC???
UPS might work as long as you have a physical address to ship it to. They won't deliever to PO boxes. You might be able to have it shipped to a UPS Store (formerly Mailbox Etc.) and have them hold it for you. Probably best place for that would be one located in Reno. I'd recommend that you call a local UPS Store and ask them if they could do that or what they would recommend.

Check your Regional area to see if there are any burners near you who will be driving out. Maybe they will have extra room for your stuff. Sometimes theme camps will do this. Let everyone who is from their area pack their personal supplies in with the camp supplies.
I think there are some burners in NC, SC, and FL who are driving out. Probably someone in GA is too.
Good luck!

some thoughts from a pro shipper
If you have it shipped out by UPS, Roadway, Navis SmallMoves, whomever, be sure to have it picked up (or drop it at their depot) AT LEAST 2 weeks ahead. You want to allow plenty of time for it to get there, and most shippers don't move on weekends. I have a pro-burn friend who works at Navis, he would prob have good info on someplace in Reno to have your stuff sent to.
If you do ship it, DO NOT ship any gasoline, camp fuel, stove gas, whatever flammables including candles. That you wanna bring with you or send with a friend in their car. In summertime, temps in the uncooled cargo areas of trucks, it can get hot enough to cause combustion without spark and your candles may end up as shapeless goo.
If you send it with pals, you can sort it by what it is/how you use it if you want. If you send it w/ a commercial shipper, there is a slight risk that not all of the boxes will arrive together, so you might want to spread out some of the essentials (like food. I wouldn't pack the stove parts in separate boxes
)
Any way you go, mark it thoroughly to avoid confusion ("honey, did we bring the inflatable sheep?" "No dear, i think that's Larry's.")
Feel free to pm me for info on packing your stuff to be shipped, it's an area i know a lot about . I can also, if you like, put you in touch w/ my friend who works for an actual shipping company.

UPS Store drop ship
You can ship stuff to yourself via the UPS Store of your choice. You just have to go to the UPS Store during their biz hours and pick up your package and pay them a fee for the service. I am not sure but they also may require it be sent via UPS service. Can be expensive for shipping anything of odd shapre of heavy weight, but can save a lot of hassle.
