branding

Post by moonstonerick » Sun Jan 09, 2011 11:36 am

I've had a look look through the forum and haven't seen to much on branding. How common is it at BRC. Is there an thing I need to know about making a branding iron. What about hygine ? I'm assuming the heat will kill any germs as long as you give the brand a quick wire brushing after the last brandee.

Nothing I can suggest. Just make a really cool branding iron and sizzle away!

Instead of actual branding you could use the branding iron and body paint to leave the "brand". See my avatar. The third eye was a branding iron and body paint.
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.

Hi Moonstone, somewhere here I know I've read about burns and wounds in general not healing well at all on playa. I think FGM is correct about the alkali content. You may end up with a messy wound when you get back to the house instead of that cool brand you're goin' for. Might be worth your time to read some of the survival guide info and threads again. Of course, it's up to you to decide... just passing along what I recall..

Perhaps someone here has actual on playa experience with that..

may not be such a good idea after all . The last thing I want to do is to cause a lingering problem for someone. May have to stick with the paint idea. That would still be cool.

Playa dust is a desiccant. Burns in a clean environment need to be tended carefully, on the playa you're running an extreme risk of the wound drying out and cracking, becoming really painful (like the dreaded "playa foot").

We considered branding and piercing at our camp for about 5 minutes and realized the playa is simply not the place for fresh wounds. Not only the alkali and general dryness should be considered, but also the general stress the body is already enduring from the environment.

Now cell-popping would probably do okay, if you are into that sort of thing.

I think the consensus here was "not a good idea."
edited to add: bbcode is on, so why isn't it a link?

Aside from the fact that open wounds are horrible in BRC, it sounds like you don't even know how to do it. So, before you think about doing a bad idea, at least learn how to do it as perfectly and safely as possible, under the best circumstances.

Yes you are right .....never done it, never seen it done, but the net is a great place to find information, not only to find out how to do it properly but more important to find out what NOT to do. If I don't think I could create a good clean scar I will NOT do it. Everyone has a first time for everything.

Having said that I would be intreasted in hearing from some of the people that got done in the Exodus , or anyone that has been branded to get a first hand point of veiw.
