BLM Permit Renewal

Post by bigbluedoggy » Tue Jan 11, 2011 3:09 pm

I did a search for info on this, but didn't find anything current. I believe the LLC is in the process of getting renewal for our permit for 2011 thru 2015, with a new cap of 60,000 residents. Have we heard anything about the public hearings or how this is progressing? Is it already done?
A plan is what you vary from.

The hearing was crazy positive.

Rolando Espinosa was the name of the BLM Field Manager of the Black Rock Field Office who held the meeting here in Reno.
He made it clear that his three issues were Safety, Sustainability and Legality of the event.
Those three issues would determine the renewal status.

Will Rogers did a great job addressing each of his issues.

The BLM had continued to accept emails that addressed these issues until December 13th, 2010.

BLM says a decision will not be made before May 2010.

Did you attend the Reno hearing Risky? Was there much opposition present? Curious how the hearings closer to Gerlach went. Thanks for the info!

Thanks, Bob.
It should be 2011.

BBD -
I did attend the meeting and there were about 100 people most with positive things to say about the event.

A gentleman made a fantastic point that while BM maybe LNT, that most neighboring communities have a problem with BM attendees dumping trash
and littering. He suggested trash detail, as most big cities have. BM management was very amiable and asked if they could discuss that further after the meeting to hear his ideas.

I think moonrise has some info too on how well the meeting went. He'll probably be commenting on the thread as well.

Though I am sure that the event will be permitted, what would happen if it were not? Tickets go on sale in days...

Money refunded, minus some sort of processing fee and no event this year? Plus some sort of push to find someplace else to do it? Then a collapse of the event, but regionals taking off in a big way.

Naw, I was at the Reno public meeting, as well. As I gathered from others at the meeting, the other public meetings went pretty much the same way.

Concerns were trash along the routes (quite valid), and traffic before open gates and exodus.

Pretty minor, compared to previous years, but this "new guy" is serious about getting answers to open concerns and questions.

I'd say buy yer ticket, it'll happen, unless you are reading the "end of the world" thread.

We're definitely buying our tickets. Hoping to be under 250 in the cue! Well under 1,000 anyway.

ROTFLMFAO!!!

The perreniel return, right on schedule. Why don't you grow up, get your life and your finances in order and maybe you wouldn't need to hope for miracles and depend on the kindness of strangers. It's getting old and wearing thin.

I don't want to split hairs, I'm tired, overworked and underpaid but here goes...

Yes, "salt of the earth moonrise" (I ain't a hippie btw) relayed all messages from the Reno announce list to jkisha, b/c he showed interest in writing BLM before the Dec. 13th, 2010 deadline. (did ya jk?)

I also wrote back n forth a couple of times to a very nice guy, first name Dave as I recall, he was the BLM guy previous to the current BLM guy and he wrote back some thoughtful and very positive responses...it got a bit sad when he hit upon the Empire/Gerlach situation.

It answers got MUCH better when I wrote around the GLOBE, to politically powerful family members and politically powerful family friends, all much smarter than little old me, haha, all of them are genius "monkey wrench" types...scary good, everything done all nice, neat and legal, hmph!

"...when burning man hit's or comes close to going over 60,000 population....they'll just re-apply and re-apply again every time it get's close to a cap....and get re-approved"

"...isn't that playa 400 miles long?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I recycle and hope for some ecology on this planet but I won't apologize enjoying life, especially after paying federal taxes on that land myself, will you?
Black Rock Desert is federal BLM land, every American owns it, we know and teach LNT, LNT is do-able in a do-acracy, it's easy enough.
The other local issues can be resolved, as Risky said.
Anyway, Reno, the region at large and the WORLD loves and needs BM!!
Buy your tickets! Relax, plan and what not, mm hmm...
See ya there...
The cap is based on the ability amongst other things to evacuate the playa. The capacity of the road system is the biggest determining factor.
My first choice will be the "Nevada Regional"
Or maybe a big beach?
She could be a sock.
I was so tempted to say to her "Tell us something new" but didn't want to acknowledge her appearance. Tired of her, tired of her begging and tired of her Marxest Post-Pavlovian pet sitting. I really should plonk her, because I'm not to be trusted around her.
Actually I did.. and it's pretty glaring that every post is so overly crystal sucking in a semi cynical way that I'm pretty damn sure that "it" exists solely for performance art via stirring up shit. Read through it all and I think it becomes obvious..
Don't you people be disrespecting the woman I love. Sure, I only know her from the posts here, but that bright sparkle in her eyes really turns me on. We could be soul mates and not even know it. :D
Oh my dear Laughing Forest, they know not what they do. You go for that free ticket, and maybe we can gaze into each others eyes this year!
Well, I am also hoping for a miracle-- but probably not the same one.
Officials for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management approved the special recreation permit Wednesday for a 4,400-acre section of the Black Rock Desert in Pershing County about 10 miles northeast of Gerlach.
This is a little frustrating. BLM has raised other groups standards to those that Burning Man set for itself...what more do they want from us? Maybe theyd be a little nicer if we started bringing firearms again.
anything worth doing is worth overdoing..
