howdy! welcome to eplaya. You will find lots of helpful info on here. If you are looking to find other texans, a good place to start would be the regionals page off burningman.com sign up for your area and they start coming out of the woodwork. That's really the only advice i have, since i'm a newbie too.
When the only tool you got is a hammer, every problem looks like a hippie.

I'm in San Antonio and I'm going for my first time as well.
As it is now, I'm going by myself, all 1,800 miles with whatever I can safely squeeze into a Ford Focus.

Hey hyperlatina! Welcome to eplaya! There is a fairly large group of burners in the metroplex, so finding some locals to talk to shouldn't be too difficult. Eplaya has all the information you need, if you want to do it alone. I hope you, and all the other new Texans have a wonderful trip and a fantastic burn.
Suck it.

You know you're going to have a Texan meet'n'greet now, don't you.
Maybe we can make it into a camp thing somewhere good.

Hiya Sean
I'm from San Antonio, but sometimes Austin.
I think there is another one or two from Dallas on ePlaya. I know of two people who may go this year from Dallas (I met then when we all lived in NYC and our paths crossed again in Austin).
Now that I think of it, I have no idea if they're going. The girl is into hula hoops and lightng shit on fire.

If she's cute and her name is Natasha Kouri, then it's the same girl. I think she's getting into body painting also.naesthetics wrote:Hey Brian. Good to meet you. Have you been before? Are you doing a theme camp?
I have seen a girl into hula hoops and she set it on fire too. Maybe its the same one? small world
I don't really know which questions to ask. I'm ready to soak up as much as i can though.
This is my first time and I'm traveling and camping solo, or mostly solo. I'm volunteering at Media Mecca.

There is an insane amount of information in the ePlaya and some of it may even be helpful. If you have time, read as much as you can, ask questions and have some fun.
Its a very good idea to read every word on the website as well, including the boring stuff like the 2010 After Burn Report. Definitely read the guides and advice.

Sometimes I feel bad for bashing Texas because it's such an easy target like playing dodgeball with retarded kids. I am trying to get out, or at least improve my situation but going to Burning Man is a financial strain that is keeping me from really doing anything else, but I'm sure it will be fun as shit, an awesome experience and oportunity to get out of this rut I'm in.Dr Jet Sinister wrote:Yeah.. If I still lived in NYC I most likely would never get to go to Burning Man, so there is the one positive thing.

I could gush on and on how it changed our lives and perspective, but it would sound a little cult-ish. You've heard the stories or you wouldn't be going for yourself. We haven't met, but I'm *thrilled* that you are going. I do hope the event can have the same sort of positive affect on you that we've experienced. Please come visit us in Terminal City, since we suck at remembering the meet-n-greet.Super Evil Brian wrote:Sometimes I feel bad for bashing Texas because it's such an easy target like playing dodgeball with retarded kids. I can recal precise details about sitting on the kitchen floor at the age of 3 or 4 eating cookies in 1979, but remembering some thign lke going to see people may be a problem.
I'm not a joiner or follower so cultish things don't appeal to me unles there is an adventure aspect. I wasn't a bike messenger in NYC to be cool, I did it because it's a job anyone can walk into, be hired on the spot and start the next day. It turned out to be fun and fast but also very mentally and physically demanding.
I enlisted in the Air Force Reserve for some adventure, not for the paranoid, flag-waiving, pseudo-"patriotic" redneck bullshit. It turned out to be mindlessly boring and frustrating. In neither instance did I just blend in intentionionally or unintentionally, I was myself.
I'm looking forward to this crazy adventure to the desert because, as far as I know, anything can happen. The best I can do is be prepared for the trip and keep an open mind and my sense of adventure.
