Carson City, NV - First Time Burning Man
Carson City, NV - First Time Burning Man
I'm thrilled to be able to attend Burning Man this year. I have lived in Carson City for a year now and could not miss out on such a wonderful opportunity...now that I'm only 2 1/2 hours away from the event. My husband and I camped at the playa in late May when the ground was spongy, but the late afternoon wind was crazy! I'm trying to decide if I want to make a geodesic dome (http://www.byexample.com/projects/curre ... nstruction) or a more standard canopy tent (http://stores.ebay.com/all4canopy). The dome would be stronger, but also harder to make (especially the fitted cover). Having sun shelter is really important to me...the costumes are in the works too. BM2011 !!

Awe...
Carson City. My good old truck finally decided to retire itself post-event last year and we had to get a new one in Carson City. I left the little dealership sticker on the tailgate and it makes me smile and think of the desert. Sort of like a covert Burner Reference, if only to myself.
Welcome to eplaya. I miss the desert.

Re: Carson City, NV - First Time Burning Man
Just as a belated update. We ended up building a 2V geodesic dome. We have used in on the playa 3 times (2 for Burning Man). It is strong against the wind and keeps the sun off during the day. Here's a link to the project on Facebook with pictures of building the dome.
