I wear Hearing Aids-what to do about dust
I wear Hearing Aids-what to do about dust
Anyone out there with experience and suggestions for the Hearing Impaired. Wearing Hearing Aids are the only way I can be apart of conversations. My concern with the dust is that they may ruin these expensive electronic devices. Any suggestions? Googles for the ears? LOL

In the questions forum there are various threads on electronics that you might want to peruse. Do you have any older ones that you could use instead? Canned air comes up as a solution sometimes for other electronics. Is it possible to make some sort of crude ear trumpet (I"m sure it could be playafied into quite a conversation piece) that you could use when it's really dusty so that you're still able to have conversation (albeit somewhat inconveinently) during dust storms while your expensive pieces are safe(r) in a ziplock bag?
I'm not sure if the medical team has run into this, but if you want to ask them, e-mail is [email protected]
I have no specific knowledge. But I'm guessing that others (beyond Burning Man) have had to deal with dusty environments and hearing aids if you could only find the information. There's a medical clinic in Gerlach, maybe they dealt with similier issues amoung residents. They seem friendly there, if you wrote them maybe they know something.

You can camp next to the Large sound area and vibrate yourself to sleep from the noise without hearing at its very loud levels.

Hi ArtyGuy!
I google searched hearing aids + dust, and while I will probably be poo-poo’d for using brand names, what the heck, I think the sounds of the playa are so magnificent that I’ll take the heat for it. It seems that there are some thingamabobs called Super Seals and I found them on www.justbekuz.com. I don’t know if that’s what you’re looking for, but maybe it’ll help. Sniffing around, other people on other websites have recommended Badger’s idea, and head wraps are always in fashion on the playa.
Best of luck!

Koosh got a hold of me... I'm the fellow deaf DMV hottie she was referring to.
I wear a Siemen's aid, the kind that goes over the ear. Archaic I know but my hearing is so bad that anything else is wasted on me.
What do I do for it? Nothing.
My hair is long and covers it. When it's pulled back, well it seems to be fine. At night, I take it out and lay it somewhere close by but don't even cover it and it's fine even though dust is constantly coming into the tent.
My only problem is sweat and well I have that issue anyways off playa.
The heat itself is never a problem... heck I lived in Vegas for a while when temps would average 115 degrees. Going to the playa was cooler.
I've also been fortunate to have not been caught in many bad dust storms. Just take shelter or hike a bandana over your ear then if you want.
Hope that helps.

Try a "welding cap" or other suitable toque.

artguy,
i happened to hear an ad for these on the radio. thought it sounded intriguing if you're nervous about taking your every day ones. they're "disposable".
