Post by Skyhawk » Mon Jul 12, 2004 11:19 pm

since I cant throw Anythign away, I now have (nearly) 500 two foot long pieces of 1 inch pvc pipe stacked in the back of My truck. they are cutoffs from a huge project at work (home depot) and I Know there must be Something I can do.. but Im still drawing a blank..

what Can a clever person (in my own humble opinion) do with this near treasure?

Hmmm I'm thinking some assorted connectors and some spay paint and you've got a playa sized set of tinker toys.
When in doubt, push the RED button!

1) I have a one word suggestion: tensengrity (of course I probably spelled it incorrectly...and am too lazy to get the dictionary.)

2) Huge Tinker Toy-like system: I have a number of pieces like that and intend to make a modular frame thing with T-connectors and 4 way connectors for my bike. Not sure how this will work yet, but it ought to be interesting. Perhaps they'd be useful for some interactive structure on the front of your camp?

is it water resistant?

all i can think of is the monty python sketch where the guy has miles of string, left to him in a will, but due to poor planning it's all cut up into 1 inch pieces, and he's trying to sell it. john cleese is the advertising man, who's coming up with all sorts of weird ideas- "simpson's empra-stringettes! as used in hospitals! it's water resistant"

"no it isn't!"

"all right, then it's water absorbent! soak up water with string! away with the dull drudgery of work-a-day tidal waves!"

"you're a loony!"

"hush! i see a television commercial! a nude woman, in a bath, holding up a bit of your string! no, no, it's too sexy- put an archbishop in the bath! international flavor? make the archbishop greek orthodox..."

sorry, too much coffee already today
