First timer all the way from Finland!

Hello! First timer coming from Finland to the States to meet some friends and realized it would be a great opportunity to participate in Burning Man 20100 as well.

I have been planning a lot already, and I bought my ticket, but there is so much to figure out! I probably can't bring any more than some clothes across the ocean, and I don't have a driver's license, so how to get equipment and how to get to the playa are big problems. I know about rideshare.burningman.com but I'm not sure if I can find a ride from there that can fit all my stuff for sure. Not to mention what I will do with all my camping gear, grey water, and the bike after the event is over and I have to get on a plane - I'm thinking of giving all my equipment away afterwards in exchange for dealing with my grey water and a ride to Reno, or something!

Anyway there's still a long time to go and I'm sure things will work out somehow. Any tips or similar experiences are more than welcome! Or if you know something about rides to BRC from San Diego, as that's where I'll probably be the week before the Burn.

You might want to read about joining a theme camp, which if you find one that's a good fit, might work pretty well for you. You can even find one separate from your ride.
And read around the board. Q&A, Tips and Tricks is good for logistics. Da Bar Volume #3 is a good place to meet the usual cast of idiots.
Do you know any good Finnish accordion bands? I love Finntroll, but I'm not a metalhead, so it's difficult to transcribe that to other finnish bands. Oh and the Leningrad Cowboys. They're great.

Edited to add: Yeah, Burningman 20110 should be great. ;>)
Edited again to add: And I do know that Leningrad Cowboys are Russian, actually. And to say, that I was trying to replicate your error and made one of my own. That'll learn me!

Haha, whoops, didn't even notice my typo. Thanks for the advice! I actually already contacted the Lamplighters, seems like they're newbie-friendly! I'll be sure to read as much stuff about logistics as I can.

As for accordion bands... can't really say I know any :D

The lamplighters are great people. love their bloody marys! Just realize that camping with them will be a lot of hard work! You might want to play more then you will be able to if you camp with them. just saying!

Yeah, I realize there's a lot of participation involved, and I don't mind, will probably actually be fun

I read some experiences about newbies camping with Lamplighters and it sounded cool! And I understand this is much better than just camping by myself as I might not have the resources to bring stuff like shade structures.

Make sure that you follow the customs quotas on that. You don't want your vacation to be ruined by a smuggling charge.

I love Finland so much. Was there for 5 months in Oulu, so much fun.

Dont worry about coming from far away. Make friends here and you will find a lot of help as well.

Wow, that certainly is a nice idea that I imagine would help the people coming from abroad. The thing is though that if someone was relying on getting a crate, showed up, and didn't get one because they ran out/some other reason, they would be in quite a difficult situation without any supplies... So I guess you'd need a reliable way to reserve a crate like that well before the event. But it is an awesome idea!

You would have your crate reserved before the event. The biggest problem, would be finding us on the playa.

Protip : if you choose to buy duty free be aware that you won't be allowed to bring bottle in your plane if you change of plane during your trip ( so you w'ill have to put your stuff with the other luggage)
I can tell you more about this beacause i've been tricked by that once (and i won't be twice)..
