First time burner... long time wanter

Post by davem » Thu Jan 20, 2011 11:22 am

With the confirmation of my ticket purchase last night, I'm now officially heading to my 1st Burn. I first learned about Burning Man back in 2001 when my girlfriend (now wife) was going to buy me a ticket for my birthday. Unfortunately, it didn't work out and I didn't get to go.

Since then, life sort of happened...(work, homes, marriage, kids, etc).... and now suddenly, it is ten years later. I figure that I better go now before time keeps flying by and it is 2021..... and I'm still wishing I was there.

Looking forward to getting a little weird and little dusty. :)

-Dave

It might get 1) more than a little weird, and 2) particularly dusty. But as long as you're cool with that . . . read these:

http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/
http://www.burningman.com/preparation/
http://www.burningman.com/preparation/event_survival/

There will be a 2011 Survival Guide later, but they keep a lot of the same information from year to year (with some key additions).

About damned time you got here, btw. I remember looking around last year and thinking: "this place is fucking fabulous. But it needs more Daves."

Thanks for the welcome. I'm glad I could do my part to keep balance in the "Dave" force on the playa.

I've read a few of the survival guides, but will be sure to read, print out, highlight, laminate, etc..the 2011 Guide.

Now I'm looking forward to breaking out the sewing machine, which in our macho guy world is known as "The misunderstood power tool."

I am resisting the urge to say

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
