only 4 hours from SF to Reno?
So if we leave SF at 9am can we expect to be in Reno by mid afternoon?

Well, maps.yahoo.com sex 3 hrs, 16 minutes.
mapquest.com claims it'll be 3 hrs, 20 minutes.
I'm sure it depends on other factors--traffic (and at 9:00 am, you may get some between SF and Sacramento), how your engine handles the mountains, if you adjust your driving style for the heavy load, and whether or not you stop at the Happy Cannibalism monument state park.
OF course, when we went we always had to deal with a very thirsty truck. And don't forget that Reno is only halfway there. YMMV.

thanks
Hey thanks! Yeah Reno is only half way there but we are stopping in Reno for the night - plus I find the trip between Reno and BRC goes by SO quickly because of all the other burners en route.
thanks for the tips!

Four hours? Not likely. My best time to the playa was 4 hours 30 something minutes but I'll never do it again. So if we leave SF at 9am can we expect to be in Reno by mid afternoon?
Your question is going to depend on which day you leave. 9am is a decent time becuase you'll be missing the heavy bay area traffic and the Sacramento traffic - even on a Friday (all bets off on the weekend).
If you drive sanely and don't plan on stopping for an extended meal at Denny's or shopping at the Raley's in Reno you should get up there around 4pm with no problem.

I've heard it takes about 6 hours if you leave at 9am because you and EVERYBODY ELSE are on the road at the same time so once you leave I-80 you get stuck in traffic. Just like leaving, you crawl very slowly. So if you want to get there in 3 hours, time your departure to be something odd like at 4am or something so you don't get stuck in traffic.

It all depends on your luck. I've driven that route many times, almost always in the 4-hour timeframe from the south bay.Icepack wrote:I've heard it takes about 6 hours if you leave at 9am
Last year was the exception that prioves the rule, though. I was heading up early to help set up the theme camp the Friday before the event. Left around 1 PM, and must have hit every traffic jam and accident backup possible. Took me eight hours just to get to Reno.

Kate, i noticed you're coming from San Fran. Me and a friend are doing Burning Man for the first time this year and are coming from the UK (see I'm An Englishman in Black Rock posting). I'm trying to find out whether there are any big parties heading off from the Bay Area who would let a couple of Brits join in on the fun. Any chance you know of anything? Or could you direct me to somewhere i could find out?
Many thanks... milkybarkid.
