Utah now has a state gun

Post by Elderberry » Thu Jan 27, 2011 5:51 pm

Why? To shoot their state bird? Which, by the way, is the California Seagull.

...wasn't John Browning living in Utah when he designed the 1911?

but I agree, a State Gun seems a little silly...

I used to drive by their factory all the time on my way to WSU. Not much different than the Idaho Potato imo.

I live in Ogden, the Union Station on 25th has a marvelous gun museum. Yes, Browning is heavily featured. Funny, if you drive up Weber Canyon to Morgan to the Browning Factory Outlet, they don't sell guns there.

The bill is proposed, not passed. There is some opposition, as the timing is tasteless.

It is illegal to shoot California Gulls here too. All migratory birds are federally protected unless there is a license involved. An employee at Burger Bar in Clearfield went to jail for poisoning the gulls.

Those were pigeons silly. Or are California Seagulls pigeons? I see them hanging around the local dump fairly regularly.

I always will remember
Twas a year ago, November
I went to hunt some deer
On a morning bright and clear
I went and shot the maximum the game laws would allow
Two game wardens, seven hunters and a cow.

I was in no mood to trifle
I took down my trusty rifle
Went out to hunt some prey
What a haul I made that day
I tied them to my fender and I drove them home somehow
Two game wardens, seven hunters and a cow.

The law was very firm it
Took away my permit
The worst punishment I ever endured.
It turned out there was a reason
Cows were out of season
And one of the hunters wasn't insured

People ask me how I do it
I say there's nothing too it
You just stand there looking cute
And when something moves, you shoot

And I've forgotten the last verse but the grand finale is:
Two game wardens, seven hunters and a pure bred Guernsey cow.

My point being that I wouldn't take Leher as a moral authority on anything.
(And I can quote disgusting amounts of Maestro Tom at the drop of a fucking hat.)

So if you commit crimes in Utah with the state gun do you get five years off your prison sentence?

Fishy, the last few lines of The Hunting Song are:

...You just stand there looking cute
And when something moves, you shoot.
And there's 10 stuffed heads in my trophy room right now
Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a pure bred Gernsey cow.

I had Tom Lehrer himself autograph my Tom Lehrer songbooks when we met back in the '70s.
