i have done my own oral surgery for many years, including abcesses and pulling teeth.

i have used vet prescribed amoxicillin because it's the same for horses or people, 500mgs is 500mgs.

samples of drugs from friends who work at doctors offices.

fixed and sutured and stitched my own knee after a motorcycle accident because when i actually WENT to the emergency room, because of my no ins. status i sat there bleeding for 7 fucking hours without so much as a bandaid before i cut my pants off with scissors, walked out hailed a cab, went to CVS, bought all the shit i needed, and did it myself.

it was the Last time i've stepped foot in a hospital, that was 6 or 7 years ago.

2 torn rotator cuffs...numerous broken toes, ribs..couple of collapsed lungs.

all healed myself.

top it off, i have Marfan's syndrome and although it's illegal to cherry pick for pre-existing conditions, the rates here are insane, and i'll be damned if i go to SSI or any Gov. Office. for a handout.

bitter about the State of Health care in the US, you betcha.
angry at the republicans, big pharma, the medical insurance companies, malpractice lawyers and Doctors who work only to line their pockets and not to cure and help, it goes without saying.

i'm pretty resourceful and resilient and am a survivor of sorts, but god help the sick, or the poor with sick family members, or just the dumb joe without insurance who slips on a ladder and all of a sudden can't work for 6 weeks and is looking at a 10,000$ hospital bill he can't pay because he's losing his house too.

grrrrrrr.

ok, im done bitching. I think national health care is a good idea, thats obvious.

I worked for Sen. bob Kerry because he wanted a national health care plan back in 92'.

it seemed logical, feasible and financially sound.

it failed miserably, and instead we got the monstrosity known as "Managed" health care as a result of the Insurance companies and their Man Sen jay Rockefeller pushing legislation that did not provide management or health care, only more paperwork, and a middleman.

i honestly don't see things changing, the profit motive all around is too great.

rant over...what was the topic again?

oh yeah....$50,000 grand....hookers and blow, duh.

Travel Travel Travel. Get my camping supplies in tip top shape and also buy a sweet truck with a trailer over the back. I've been considering a gun lately too.

Also, I want to learn to sew leather, so the stuff for that.

Oh, and an amp for my electric guitar.

Then the rest on hookers and blow of course.

Pay off credit cards & student loans.
Buy a nice little camper van. Living in the NW I get really tired of setting up a tent in the rain.

that if someone needed something or could not get to where they need to be on the playa i would share my cart with them...there is nothing like being able to get to go see stuff on the playa ...and then i would get to do more then i have the last 6 burns...it would be nice
whooo we are camping with greeters....it will be great

around these parts you can buy a nice starter house for about 30,000 or less, depending on the size.

I'd buy that, pay ahead on some utilities. I'm tired of throwing my money away on renting.
Trade my jimmy in for something with a transmission that isn't about to fall out. Nothing fancy just something more dependable. Maybe 5k+ the trade in value of my jimmy.

Give my boyfriend a few bucks to fix up his Mazda rx-7 the way he wants it.

Help out the animal shelter I volunteer out. Perhaps pay for some of their expansion.

Invest the rest.

That would be so amazing!

50 000 wouldn't change a lot... just put a down payment on a condo so my rent would be going towards something.

I'd also put most of the money aside for nursing school.

Whatever is left over... TRAVEL + snowboarding trips + rock climbing.

Plus some wicked BM gifting!

I recently acquired $34,660.00 last month. It's not $50K but closer than I'll ever get again. I've thought of a hundred things I could do with it, or want to do with it, so I start writing out a list... ((license, pickup truck, camper, downpayment on a piece of land so I can grow pot, a ticket to BM, camping gear, laptop, clothes, etc))...then I get overwhelmed, tear up the list and tell myself not to touch it for a year.

I think this is spot on with this exception. If you have bills that are costing you $ in interest expense then pay them off(like sailman says)

IMHO this kind of money should be used to facilitate a long term goal in life. For me that would be building up retirement savings and investing those savings wisely.

Over the next year think about your long term goals and weigh immediate uses versus the way investing it in a mixed stock bond portfolio would compound that money over time. Then you would have more cash for that life goal in the future. In the mean time get that $ in to a low cost brokerage account and buy bond ETF shares or in to a 5 year away target date retirement fund. That way your $ will be conservatively invested and growing a little while you decide what to do with it.

Sorry. I have complicated ways of saying simple things. I've always been that way.

PM me if you want more specific information and a fairly easy book to read on the subject of long term investing. I don't want to make specific recommendations in a thread cause of the whole commerce thing.

Vacations are great! Go for it.

Well, those were some interesting read about the way that people would spend if they suddenly came to have $50,000 on them… It is a welcome thought and the first thing I would do was to secure my family’s financial security for the rest of our lives – of course, after very careful planning, we would use some of it to have a nice time as well!! But unfortunately, I didn’t believe that money not earned through hard work will last – but there is no harm in dreaming, is there!!

Get out of debt. If there is anything left, get a crown my my rear molar, then replace my car. $50,000 isn't that much any more.
