From the BM 10 Commandments List.
5. Observe fire rules.
High winds create a serious fire hazard within the densely settled confines of our city. Burn barrels are restricted to the Esplanade, the pedestrian boulevard at the front of our city, Villages, Center Camp, and the two Plazas at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock. All structures must be 50 feet from any burn barrel. Aerial flares, rockets, explosives, and fireworks are prohibited in Black Rock City and could result in a fine. Straw or hay bales are not allowed. Respect art works. If an artwork is to be burned, ONLY the artist who created it may ignite it. No fires of any kind are allowed on the unprotected playa surface. See Burn Scar Prevention.

burning
I burn myself when I'm cooking all the time. Sometimes it hurts, but the day after, it's always really cool looking. There will be little polka dots of red or pink or purple...especially when the hot oil lands on you. Doesn't hurt after the first few seconds, and gives me multiple birthmarks and battle scars that I always dreamed of. *sigh*

Second that. Round here people save them up to burn on the beach in the summer. The sparks are outstanding, young corporal.theCryptofishist wrote:Went to the Cacophony sociaty Christmas tree bonfire beach burn once. Wonderful.etherialc. wrote: Also, christmas trees make for good bonfires.

on a tangent
Just rambling: hehe, the local (Utah) news is carrying a story about two guys out joyriding and tossing fireworks out the car windows at other cars and pedestrians. Except the passenger forget to put his window down, and the firework was rather large, the interior of the car was totaled, and the cops say "alcohol may have been a factor." I do feel bad for anyone with 2nd degree burns ... but I really have to laugh at these doofusii.
anyway, fireworks = moop and fireworks + tent city = yikes!

Especially when hundreds of dried ones are in a heap at the end of summer at a pine tree farm. Until BM, this was the biggest fire I ever saw 1st hand.etherialc. wrote:Also, christmas trees make for good bonfires.

Check out the July 16th coverage of the fire in the paper yard. Pretty good blaze, didn't get into the building, will take days to put out.
Also has video (july 15) of the fireworks lit in car incident. And turn off your pop-up blocker or the link won't work.
