Qustion about a BM Wedding....

Post by Missiebeth » Sun Jan 30, 2011 9:07 pm

My fiance and I are planning on getting married at Burning Man this year but have a logistical question. We were planning on doing it at Friday evening until one of our friends brought up that because of the partying on Friday night that maybe that would not be the best time to do it. We are discussing doing it Saturday late afternoon instead. We would just like some feedback on the best time to have a BM wedding. Please let us know what you think.

What about earlier in the day on Friday? Then have afternoon party and keep it going late night by joining all the other parties.

don't do it Saturday or Sunday. Those are just sort of overwhelming days when the big burns happen and everyone is that bit more lost psycho.
We went for Thursday. It's actually a fairly popular day.

It's not real tough, the gal in Lovelock is "pro-Burn" and very helpful.
you have to fill out some forms, and pay a fee, to perform weddings in Nevada, as a non-resident. And, it's a limited number you can perform, 4 I think.

Only if you wear the mascara.

In our camp, four of us are ordained... just so we can do the Monty Python "Reverend, Reverend, Reverend, Reverend" greetings when we feel like it.

Why not do it Friday night? Sure there's a lot of partying going on, but whom do you expect at your service? All of BRC? Or your guests, who would prefer your particular party to all those others?

I have officiated at several playa weddings and most people like to do it earlier in the week before all the frat boys get there and while food, booze and people are fresher. Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday seem to be the favorites.

Although the day changes in relation to the date every year, having your wedding earlier on means you can more likely celebrate your anniversary on a day that isn't burn night. Some think that makes it more special - I think most beleive it would detract from having your own special day.

Wouldn't it all depend *where* you want to have the wedding? All three of my burns we had weddings in camp on Friday afternoon/evening, it's become almost a tradition and a good reason for everyone to stay in camp and have a "family night" in the bar. The last two years, Friday night in camp topped Burn night or Temple night.

If you plan the wedding at the Temple or the Man, that would probably be different. Just a thought.

I did wedding photos for a Friday wedding (http://thebes-inc.smugmug.com/Weddings/ ... 1891_2VEdi). They scheduled it for just before sunset. That works just fine. All of the "big party" stuff happens in the nighttime. Sunset is more for camp gatherings, dinner and getting costumes ready for the nighttime fun.

The MAN might be a bit crowded, since this is the last evening you can go up the structure. But lots of plaza-like art finds its way to the playa and you should have no trouble finding a good venue for your Friday wedding. Just plan a meet-up location well in advance and then have everyone walk to your actual wedding location.

Good luck!
