Re: Ebay ticket sales

ticket sale crapola fer sure.
The orgs prefrens for in-ticket is most likely to blame. causing a server to crash is pretty trivial when you are slightly skilled in system admin. and if you are turning tickets at 100% profit it is how you fund your burn. in short it is an insiderish job. basically fuck your fellow burner as dnightshade points out. I'm sure some Org apologist will decry this but thats the same asshat that made the mess to begin with.
Solution. Buy tickets every other year smuggle your self in and gift the ticket to the moochers out front.
dnightshade wrote:Personally, I've been feeling the reason that tickets were sold out so fast are due to the possibility of third party involvement in buying the tickets. It seems a bit ridiculous when you look at the previous year sales.

Plus I've seen stuff like this a few times on e-bay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Tickets-Burning-M ... 500wt_1156

Of course theres this one that was already mentioned once:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Burningman-2011-Buc ... 4aa8157973

I'm sure that's not where it ends either.

Something should be done about this.

Yes, you are right, I bought ALL the tickets. Pffft.

Smuggle yourself in? PLEASE tell me your kidding.

As for the tickets selling fast, I wonder if the mention on South Park had anything to do with it. There was a few minute spoof on there and it glorified the BM event. Eric Cartman (Coon and Friends) crash the greatest party on earth.

Wow..I made it to the end...and in the end...I'm just confused. So let me try to figure it out....

some guy who says he's been to the playa a few times and has been some sort of planner for 15 years throws together a "you don't have to do shit but pay me and decorate your bike " package. He promises a MV (ps it's mutant not Morphed), a "TOUR" guide, an illegally loud sound system and perhaps...wait for it...wait for it....a trampoline. In return, he and 6 of his "workers" have all their needs paid for as well.

In response: People announce their beliefs that this is wrong or this might be okay.

And now is where I get confused...am I to understand that he has already dropped over 10k on tickets for the greatest party on earth and he is seeking help to put together? (30 tic @320+fee) He has even extended the offer to hire someone from the board.

If he is already this deep in the hole, perhaps this was not a well thought out business plan on many fronts. If the person offering you the Package of a Lifetime can't even do their homework before sticking their hand out and making promises then there is a bigger issue here than just the commerce.

Please help me understand why in the world the poster of this ad has not been asked to fully explain his failure to present a complete, accurate and valid business plan while claiming he knows what he's doing but just simply seeking some feedback. He is a Troll of some kind...it may not be the typical stir the shit troll, but he is trolling for you help to put 95k into his bank account. Make sure you feel like you are getting your share before helping him sell the experience we all help build.

I don't believe he has stated or implied that he has purchased 30 tickets. My guess would be that he purchased a few tickets for his 10 person package and his crew. Just a guess mind you. Those tickets can easily be resold if he does not find a high roller.

If he is already this deep in the hole, perhaps this was not a well thought out business plan on many fronts.

This is based on your assumption of what he may have done.

I will agree he is trolling for help from this forum. I certainly don't think he is looking for customers here. Therefore, why should he spell out the details to those who are not potential clients.

I haven’t visited this thread since it was under a page long, and truthfully haven’t read every page through before posting this… but I wanted to share a story that may (or may not) be pertinent to the discussion.

I work as a concierge in a resort in Quebec. Around four years ago we were the venue for a large conference which brought in some of the world’s best minds in a certain field.

One of the keynote speakers was a day late.

When the expected speaker and his wife arrived, they practically floated into the building – the qualities of their energies almost impossible to describe, except maybe to say “they were radiating blissâ€
Worry is a misuse of imagination

She had blue skin, And so did he.
He kept it hid And so did she.
They searched for blue Their whole life through,
Then passed right by- And never knew.”

It is quite true that I've had virgins tent camp with us, and they returned from Burning Man completely untouched by the event.

Love the story, Delle, thanks for sharing.

I have made the change from morphed to mutated for you.

I would like to point out the fact the sound system is not illegal. I will not provide more than 300 watts.

As for pocketing $95,000, do you really think my grandparents gave me this as a graduation gift and now I'm selling it on Ebay to pocket all the cash? *chuckle*

I still thank you for taking the time to write your comments and feelings.

By the way, that trampoline is not just some trampoline from toys r us. That is a euro bungee trampoline. Its about $30,000 with all the accessories. Rest assured, this Euro Trampoline would be major fun at BM for everyone to enjoy.

At least in my view, the camp is the people who make up the camp and how they interact with those around them.

I hate when people say this crap. Yes, those camps did not get placed. That does not mean that their entire BM experience was ruined. IT means they didn't get what they wanted.

They should feel free to drive on out to 4:30 and Gibraltar and set up your theme camp to your heart's content on Monday at 1:00 am! Heck, if your theme camp is awesome, it'll become the hot playa destination of the year.

I have absolutely have no desire to have frontage property. I prefer to be 7-8 rows back at about 7-9 o'clock.

As for the theme camp, I trust that the BM Staff will make the best decision to place us. Even if they placed us in the worst possible spot, I think the euro trampoline will be a huge draw.

Even with all the mud that has been slung, I still welcome each and every one of you to our camp. Hopefully we can all share a nice cold beer and everyone can enjoy the burn your own way.

Not too mention, the very real possibility that while they were planning a ginormous spectacle of mind blowing interactivity, none of that was conveyed on their theme camp application and it was rejected.

I dunno...

Given what you are planning, I would think getting up on C street would be a better placement option. Your campers will more than likely be interested in the spectacle of the Esplanade and open playa stuff.

This is not to denigrate the efforts made on the back streets though. Some of my best experiences have come crawling through the inner city.

I will also say that you are going to want something more than just trampoline camp for your theme camp application. You are already planning a sound system, DJ's are a dime a dozen and you can always find some looking to do their thing and bill yourself as a the Techno Tramp Camp.

You are an event planner so you should know how to right a good event plan. Keep that in mind when doing your theme camp application.

Wow, 9 pages and counting.... SacGames, you're almost a Rock Star!

I dunno, I think there is opportunity here........

If ya get 10 "rich" people at BurningMan, and only 1 or 2 "Get It"..... then maybe BM has a some major funding for Waffles or Oil Derricks next year......

SacGames, I think your only big mistake, was a perception of commodification. If you give all of your "profits" to art projects next year, the major hollering would stop. Since you control what "profits" are with your project, much as the Hat does, you shouldn't have much outcry......
