How do I find a camp?
This is my first Burn. I applied for an art grant and hopefully (finger crossed) will get it. But, if I do get it I'm not really sure where to go from there as far as finding a theme camp to join. Does anyone have any suggestions or want to take in an artist and her group of fearless helpers?
THANKS!
THANKS!

Generally, when you join a theme camp, you're expected to pitch in and help make the interactive portion of the camp run. As you're doing an art project, perhaps a theme camp is not the best choice as you'd be dividing your time between the two. A theme camp is more than a place to crash, eat and shower.
What makes you think a theme camp is the right thing for you?
Why not plan and build your own camp?
Perhaps a village would be better suited to your needs.

Let's say you do get your art grant, then raise or somehow finance the other 70% of the costs...
... Then you show up with your crew 3, 5, 7 days before gates open or whatever the BMORG grants you for building your fabulous art ...
... And there is nothing and no'on there 'cept some ruged hard looking types building infrastructure.
You may be out there before any theme camp is allowed even close to the gate.

You can also just camp on your own.
Some of the volunteer crews camp together, not sure which ones take virgins... probably lamplighters?

How many people will you need to put up your installation? You might as well camp with them, whether in an official theme camp or not.[email protected] wrote:Thanks for the advice, I'll have to look into it. Honestly I wasn't sure if you had to have a certain number of people to plan your own camp.

If you are an Honorarium Artist (i.e. you get a BM Grant), you will automatically get early entry. Since you have early entry you can (if needed) get space assigned to you just like a Theme Camp. Or you could camp with other early entry people. Depending on the size of your project you can also get early entry for "helpers".
If you get a Grant this will all be explained in the Artist meetings. I went through all of this back in 2008.

Thanks!
Thanks Steven for your info! It's nice to hear from someone who has received a grant.
