Question is...DVD Burner wrote:I was shocked to find out last night that Suzy has never been.
THIS IS JUST WRONG!
I dont just want to try to convince her to go. I know she could be there if at all possible this year.
Any suggestions?
When are you going?

Exactly, and one that cannot be answered by someone that doesn't go!mdmf007 wrote:Why is it important for her to come???
All the static you get on here isn't because we're haters. I think what sets people into snark mode is the sense of "I know more than the rest of you, and I'm not tellin'" that you convey, and it doesn't set well when the general subject at hand is Burning Man; a first-time newbie from last year knows more about Burning Man than anyone who doesn't go, no matter how much time they spend on a computer.
Almost everyone on here would party together on the playa and get along like best friends, it isn't that they hate you, it's the vibe of your eplaya presence. It's like there always has to be an intentional air of mystery and secrecy, which makes it difficult to make friends. It has ZERO to do with jealousy or envy; when you try to make that claim it only irritates folks more. Hell, YOU might be envious if you knew what I have, and I know people on here that are way better off than I am!
People want some "put up or shut up". Come to the playa live, in living color, build/do/participate something impressive, and you'll gain lots of credibility. There's no fucking way that you're too "busy" to make it to the event you're more interested in than any other. From where you live it's an EASY cruise. The margarita blender is waiting.

Now that American Idol is off the air, I wonder if my 5 hours of TV per week would be considered excessive by DVD's standards....
Seriously it's time to cut the bullshit and haul your ass to BRC. Even if you came for one day...say Thursday and went to Doc Pyro's Meet and Greet it would go a long, LONG ways towards changing perceptions. But until you make the effort you will have a credibility issue and that's all there is to it.
Taking it further and drawing from personal experiences, the fight I had with Badger cost me some friends....but it would have been much worse had I not showed up and "humanized" myself in the eyes of many. It's harder to rip into someone when you've met them face to face and the person they meet is not the enemy propaganda spun demonized psychopathic maniac that is only judged by online posts that took creative licensing to a whole new level (I should write a book on the art of online sock puppetry!). If you don't get that, in simple terms it means that showing your face would be a great way to bury some of the longstanding animosity you've built up and lets you control how people perceive you...unless you like Badger putting in "kind" words to help shape people's perception of you. That's worked really well to this point....NOT! Showing up diffuses a lot of this crap. And if you wanted to launch an eplaya substitute, people would give someone they've met more of a shot at winning their interest than going to see a stranger's site that for all they know would be filled with ads and nothing of substance related to BM. I'm not saying you would do that but seriously...before you try to take over the world, cultivating friendships and having allies makes it go much easier. So does knowing one of your target audiences....
And with that I'll step off the infamous soapbox and shut the fuck up for a bit.

Last year as I was heading to the burn Sat. evening this big country-hick redneck guy comes up saying he'd been admiring my boat all week, and could he come out to the burn with his wife on it... I said "sure!". Turns out he'd been driving one of the water trucks (a hired one, he wasn't a DPW volunteer) and had simply taken a truck driving job, he thought it was just gonna be a regular jobsite. He had NO idea about Burning Man, and seemed like the unlikeliest "burner" ever, but he was having a ball. He did insist on paying me for the cold beers I kept passing him and his wife, he didn't understand the no-commerce thing, but he was only being a good guest, a real nice guy.
The whole thing was a surprise to him, but he loved it.

A side question that I'll ask since I won't tippytoe around tough questions...have you at least made it to a regional event yet?
Many many many many times everywhere.
Goes to show, I really do re-read these threads a few times and then some.
As Big Gay Al would say, "Thanks for asking".

I can't believe I've been skipping over this thread before now, rats balls, Creepy Caruso, and Tokens priceless post about the LA douchebags, this thread has a great deal going for it, even without ever addressing the topic, which I'll do now!
