With a bit of tape around the end of AA, AAA and 9V batteries, an Altoid tin makes a great place for spare batteries.

Herbal therapy substances and paraphernalia fit quite nicely in there too.

While working on some projects today, I realized my various snaps, rivets and eyelets for leather craft are in Altoids tins. Also the tools are likewise stored.

This is SO odd...I started using these tins to hold my horseshoe nails for stained glass projects back in the late 70s...yes, they had Altoids even then.

Hmm, maybe just letting all mine pile up at the bottom of my leather working toolbox is not the best storage system.

I may be going out on a limb here, but being a peppermint junkie my favorite use for Altoids boxes is for holding my Altoids.

Hubs bought a tin on the way home. Once there, he needed to empty it out fast so he could use it as an ashtray. So he offered the mints to passerbys.

Combined with little rare-earth magnets they make a handy organizer system for little bits in the car while on-playa...Stick 'em to any exposed metal. I really like the new teensy ones! With a scrap of velcro, a pinback and some nips with a shear you've got an iPod Mini holder with storage for your earbuds! The guts from those cheap little solar pathway lights will fit in them too....

Altoid tins are wonderfully handy. They remind me of tiny cigar boxes.. now something cigar box sized, but metal, could be very useful.

I thought of the cookie tins but they aren't hinged. At least the ones I'm thinking of aren't hinged. I *know* I've seen some hinged tins around somewhere, perhaps smaller than the cookie ones and larger than altoids...

Robotland's suggestion for magnets made me think of it since I have a huge metal school bus and using something larger as a glove compartment, so to speak, would rock.

If you keep looking, you'll find hinged tins. Some of them don't even have a past as a holder of sweet treats, but as cash boxes. Which might get them stolen, I don't know. YOu don't have to lock them, but if someone's creepy enough to steal one, he might be creepy enough to steal one without checking it to see if it opens.
Thrift stores, yard sales, the usual suspects.

ergo the case to keep them in.
and, the carnage after a "drive by" is horrendous, and, it takes hours for the birds to clean up.
