Bad Driving Habits.. What are yours??
I'll start with one of mine.. I have an 18inch neck.. Getting older I con't trun the neck while driving.. Firat I put dot mirrors on all three mirrors. It's good for backing in a parking lot.. Not good for changing lanes.. So I'm exerciseing the neck and and relearning to look when changing lanes..
It just don't take much lazy habit to wreck.. What are you willing to change??

Better mirrors might help.
Most suck.
Most convex mirrors have too aggressive a ratio.
RVs and trucks need a gradual ratio.
Some people like the Multivex for smaller mirrors.
The ratio is progressive.
Probably takes some getting used to.

I've seen the round mirrors in different ratios too.
As long as the area is covered, won't you see what is going on?
The sharper ratios are pretty useless to me.
The round ones also are curved up and down which is unnecessary,
Convex side to side is easier to use.
The larger mirrors for trucks use a mild ratio, but cover everything with width.
I can't back up with the passenger side mirror on my truck.
The curve is too sharp.

A great approach, which I have only seen on UK police cars is a rear view mirror for the passenger.
Cheap to do.
For new or any drivers, you can learn a great deal from books, though it takes some effort, and you have to practice to embed it.
Use parking lots etc for learning emergency technique, or a track if possible.
Up to a point all racing techniques are applicable to real world emergency driving.

I'm coming up on 20 years without a license or driving (except for once over a decade ago, in a 2 car caravan with Kman from Phx to LA), so my bad habit would involve telling cab drivers how to drive.
They love it. Trust me.

A blower and dual turbos, maybe?? ;-)
My sin? Many, but the most pprevalent seems to very rarely sometimes go a little faster than the speed limit... oh, wait, 80 is the Interstate Number, not the speed limit? Damn. Never mind.
IMO they should make those 85 MPH speedometers from the Nixon to Reagan era illegal.
-cop: "You know how fast you were going, miss?"
-me: "Honestly, no!"
-cop: "I clocked you doing 91 back there."
-me: "No way, that's not what my speedometer said. Damn thing must be broken..."

We looked into that, but the transmission can't handle that much power from the motor. We'd need to upsize the transmission. Needless to say, that's a bit out of our price range at the moment. So we'll just keep plodding along, tortoise and the hare like.Bay Bridge Sue wrote:A blower and dual turbos, maybe??

Not watching out for pedestrians in the cross walk.

Interestingly enough, I took an online "senior driving school" course on the internet to lower my insurance rate. I really didn't think it would actually be worth my time other than the discount on my premiums; but I was surprised to find out all the little 'reminders' of things I used to do but didn't now. I would say that it has improved my driving and would recommend it to anyone that has been driving for several years.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

yeah... but I can see the "red rocket"... someday it WILL happen. You live in one of the free-est nations in the US, you have within your ability things those of us in the People's Demokratik Free Socialistic Soviet Republik of Kalifornia only dream about and remember in a time long, long past...Dr Jet Sinister wrote:We looked into that, but the transmission can't handle that much power from the motor. It will happen. Regardless of the current minor roadblocks, there is no way it cannot eventually happen. Never lose your faith!
