Hello everyone. Happy to be returning to BM this year.
Could anyone direct me to a topic link that discusses the use of Various Flame FX ? OR-- if you are familiar with Fire FX please advise:
I am aware of the regulations in place for the use of Propane Flame FX, and also aware that liquid fuels cannot be used on ArtCars. I think I may be stuck in a grey area. I have a system that uses an aerosol type canister for the production of colored flames. The canisters are self-contained and remain sealed unless activated by a solenoid which allows the aerosol to escape thru a high pressure aperture.
A) Does an Aerosol fuel system for flame fx (which is completely self-contained)- fall under the category "Liquid Fuel"? If not, then could this theoretically be approved for use on an artcar?
and
B) Could a system like this be approved for use in a theme camp, provided all the standard rules and regulations were followed.
Again, I am aware of the rules and regulations for the use of Propane FX for ArtCars, art installations , and theme camps.
Cheers!!!

I believe wood fires are banned from camping areas, posted a list of chemicals, but forgot which thread. Im defintely NOT an authority on the subject, but propane seems to be the fuel of choice.

Nice first post!
There have been some threads about flame effect setups here on Eplaya, but I don't have them marked.
Over on "Tribe" there is a tribe called PYRO, you can find many good and bad ideas over there also.
Please do tell me more about your "aerosol" setup, IE, what are you spraying, canister type, type of gas you are using to pressurize, etc....

"Aerosol" refers to very small solid or liquid bits suspended in air or another gas. If you think about exploding empty grain silos--that's bits of well almost flour, and because it's got so much surface area exposed to oxygen, it's a huge boom. I think the ones you're thinking of are "fluorocarbon" but it's been so many years, I don't know that I trust what my brain came up with.Ogdenhousedj wrote:Doesnt aerosol fuck up the Ozone??

Thanks everyone for your replies (and sorry for my delay). Iv'e spoken with the BM Fire Safety, and they are familiar with my system. It will be used on a mobile Playa DJ performance. A member from Fire Safety has been in touch with us, to help us coordinate our fire efforts. In regards to the environment, the fuel is an alcohol based fluid commonly known as Magic Corona Oil. While it may not be the most "Green" way of producing a flame, I think we all agree that the 40,000 pounds of propane gas that is ignited on art cars and at theme camps isn't exactly "green" either. It is however, Art! There is a big difference between using a fuel for an artistic display which can have a dramatic impact on your audience, compared to using 147 cans of Aqua Net every year just to get your mohawk to stand up.
Cheers to all
See you on the Playa!
