I don't care if you're going 70 mph in a 55 mph zone, I want to go 80 - so get out of the fucking way! I yell at the people creeping along in front of me all the time "Wrong lane, dipshit!" I know they can't hear me, I just kind of hope that I'm somehow penetrating into their little slowpoke pea-brain telepathically with my "get out of the fucking way!" message.

I'm not talking about during rush hour, when there's an endless line of cars in all the lanes, including the left one, all going more or less the same speed - then we're all doomed to poke along. I'm talking about when you're in left lane and there's no one in front of you, there's no one in the right lane beside you, you see me in your rearview mirror speeding up on you at 80 mph, and you... you do nothing but what you were already doing - poking along at about the speed limit in the left lane. Get ready to be tailgated and/or passed on the right, because I want to get there - wherever "there" is at the moment.
...but it seemed like such a good idea at the time...

Mostly, I don't care about tailgaters.
If they hit me, it's their fault, regardless.
And, I drive mostly pretty big vehicles, the exception being when I start riding my motorcycle.

I wish the European left turn signal thing actually signaled people to get out of that lane and let me pass. If I'm going 80 and someone flies up behind me I move. I think to myself, maybe that person is trying to get to a loved one in a hospital? Maybe they have to pee? I can't help but think those that park themselves in the passing lane are trying to 'teach everyone a lesson' about speeding. Even if the real reason is because people don't look behind them! I'm just as annoyed at people in a store that don't move their cart out of the way.

Passing on the right is legal here. With the rise in mobile phone use, I find too many truckers in the left lane on the phone. My biggest peeve of all.

Crap. I'm ranting again.
Suck it.

remember the unwritten law of truck turn signal...three clicks/blinks and I'm coming over.

I hate those "I’ll show them, by clogging up the hammer lane" types. I got into a online dispute over a dangerous highway here (hwy 70 between Chico and Red Bluff) where people were yelling for people to slow down. There have been many deaths on this stretch of road due to passing. I said all you people yelling to slow down are the root cause of the problem. If you went the speed limit, and not 5-10mph under the limit, and used the turn outs when somebody is faster then you, then there wouldn't be so much opposite lane passing. No body liked that argument...

As far as my other bad driving habits, well yeah, I'm one of those assholes with a thump thump thump stereo in both my vehicles. I do turn it down at intersections (most of the time) but the rest of the time I'm shakin your mirrors.

I also have a mini truck with airbag suspension that drops the frame of the truck on the ground with a flick of a switch. I've been known to drive many miles throwing sparks out the back of my truck by dragging it on the road...Thats prob a bad habit, no?

I don't watch DVD's in there anymore, if I do have videos playing I just turn on the back seat monitors, I usually don't have the screens up in the driver area on much anymore.
What other people think about you is none of your business.

Does getting a BJ while driving down the highway constitute a bad habit? Even if I stay in the right lane?

I usually find that the lines of meth I have railed out onto the dead hookers body in the passenger seat start to fall apart the minute I start driving. So I always feel compelled to snort them all down before I've barely left the parking lot. I always feel a bit edgy after that.

Dub step may be the sign that I've gotten old. Whenever it is playing it sounds identical to hip hop being played on an old car with vibrating plates and panels.

I've always wondered about that. I can't imagine those low frequency bass notes are at all good for the ears.

The high notes are the worst for your ears, of course the low freq's are also, but loud high pitches do more damage, and yes I admit, I've caught myself going "huh?" a bit more lately...but still....

Speed,,,, I've received one of those friendly reminders from Sacramento more than once that states something like, "According to our records, you are one point from becoming a reckless driver,,,, etc. etc." Well is that not synonymous with "wreckless"? I would think that a good thing!

My F550 tops out at 80mph and has great torque and the Clydesdales to stay with the flow. I've had a couple of "rubs" with cars who underestimate the truck's acceleration abilities. With lug nuts on the front wheels that stick out 2 inches,,,, can you say, "Ben Hur"?

My 540i thoroughly loves 120mph,,, but never been busted for more than 91. I once did St. George, UT to Vegas in 65 minutes. Virgin River Gorge at 110 is absolutely sublime.

Back when my reflexes were more youthful, we had some airhead Beemers. We left Auburn one evening at 7PM and were pulled over in Stockton at 7:50PM. 80 miles in 50 minutes,,,,, you do the math. The CHP officer was so glad we pulled over he just wrote the ticket for "exceeding 65MPH".

Mind you though,,,, when I worked for WY Highway Dept. we had to take driver safety course every year and I have well over a million miles and still do 50k+ per year.

I once had someone pull into the side of my old ford wagon assuming they had passed me in their dinky car.
Lucky for them their plastic car just bounced off.
Didn't leave a scratch.

Everyone loves my fast ford except bimmer owners, even chevy drivers.
The only time I've used any real speed off the track (lately), I outran a little bmw and they couldn't believe it, so they wanted to run again when they caught up with me again.
It was a rare empty freeway, so I wound it out a little.
Scared the hell out of me when I hit a hundred and it was still accelerating harder.
Starts to really settle in at 120.
Guess that guy had never seen a ford that would corner before.

Don't know what it is about the bimmers, but there are some theories.
Most just aren't that quick.
Did have a blown dinan badged one want to run me.
Could have won, but that's a match for the track.

Oh I was brought up with Fords! I once had to rent a car to get home and they just "happened" to have a Mustang GT convertible that was needed in Oxnard. So they let me have it for an "economy" price. That thing laid rubber at 80 MPH! I have a great respect for American Muscle.

But my bimmer reads my mind and corners like nothing else I've ever driven. And at the end of the long ride from Vegas, I don't feel like I've just driven 300 miles.

Have to add also,,,, my very first car was '64 LeMans with the GTO package. 389 with a six-pack and a 4 speed hurst. 4:11 rear end, 430HP,,,,, shit,,,, went broke keeping rubber under it tho',,,,,

Is it stock?
I drove a friend's 540i out of town and I found it way too underdamped for my taste.
Great luxury setup though.
I found myself going 90 because it felt so slow.
There are lots of tweaks for the suspension though.
Their geometry is sound.

My volvo is very similar to the bmw in suspension and weight, so a familiar car over all.

Everything feels soft after a full road race car though.

It's stock with the sport package,,,, a '98. I find the suspension nice and firm,,, good road feel,,,, ALTHOUGH,,,, the tires make a huge difference in the feel. I run General Altamax HP unidirectionals.

Does Volvo have the "rear steering" suspension? It almost feels like its drifting when it is the independent rear end just flexing,,, it stays really level.

The 540 was a recent model.
They often change the suspension tuning for marketing, so it could be very different.

My volvo is a 245.
I don't know about later models and rear steering.

The ford is solid axle with watts link/track arm rear end, all rod ended.
Delrin front suspension.
Amazing what eliminating rubber from the suspension does for directness.
There is an odd front rear spring balance to deal with the torque.
That's what the LeMans needed, besides better tires.

i'm pretty sure i can here that now turn it up a notch.

oh and the reason stock beemers are so slow is because bmw limits the bhp from the factory just tweak it a little and suddnely you have much quicker motor.
my personal favorite car i have owned was mark 2 glof gti. dundee to london at an average speed of 87.5 over about 300 miles. saldy my ex drove it into the back of a dump truck and juliet went to volkswagon heaven :(

or Ben Hur on the M1

My favorite VW is the Vanagon Turbo.
They used to see at least one Golf blow up every day trying to keep up with them on the autobahn.
(The stock vans are very slow in germany.)

I do recall a 928 that someone stretched a golf body to fit around.
It even had the 928 door liners and dash.
Very slick job.
