Air Quality in BRC

Post by dignified_speck » Wed Feb 09, 2011 3:49 pm

I was wondering if anyone would reflect, add to, or flat out reject the sentiment that the air quality in BRC is shit, specifically at night. Dust from walking, well, who's gonna take that issue on, but the generator smoke is terrible. I don't think a mandatory filter or chimney system for all generators, large or small, would be fair to the citizens; but does anyone out there believe an organization that would provide such supplies to generators in certain city sectors would be a good idea? If the money wasn't an issue, would putting our smoke just 10 feet above the playa make a good deal of difference, or attaching better filters to the gennys help us to live longer?

Thoughts?

Agreed.

If you're really worried about the air quality of BRC, you shouldn't even be living in the US. Unless you're in some remote corner of maybe, just maybe, Alaska, you're getting bad air.

Hell- pollutants from China affect our air here- there are probably very few places you can escape it.

Personally, other than the dust, I've never noticed anything else in the air unless I'm standing next to a fire-pit.

I'm a big ol' sissy as far as smoke in my lungs is concerned, and have never been bothered by smoke at Burning Man. Not yet, anyway. I'm more perturbed by taking my twilight jog past a default world home with a fire in the fireplace.

If people want to build chimneys, more power to them, but I have never noticed poor air quality.

One of the things I LOVE about Burning Man is the bad air quality. I live in Seattle, where the air is ok; there is no cigarette smoke because it’s against the law to smoke inside. I love it that you can actually smell people at Burning Man. They get sweaty and smell…..some smell really bad and some smell really good and some smell downright YUMMY.

I love that the air is full of the most insane toxic dust partials. I love it that you smell wood smoke and generator exhaust……I love it that the port-o-potties smell like shit……I love the cigarette smoke, because it smells like sin………yummy yummy sin.

Are you really worried about the air quality; at Burning Man? The drive there and back is more likely to kill you than the air. How about all the drugs people get from total strangers and ingest? How about the Sun? How about that hangover you got every other morning…..a hangover in the desert…..that shit will kill you. How about when you wake up in some else’s camp with a hangover and you can’t remember how that open umbrella all the way up your ass; and who owns the harry lips that are on your dick/clit and they keep calling you,â€
How do I get a hold of you?

You just contact the mayor's office. He has a special signal he shines in the sky; it's in the shape of a giant cock.

...it was far worse, in the old days, with people burning everything under the sun to avoid taking it home (entire couches! pvc and other nasty stuff like metallic paints, etc). Black particles would float in the air on the last few days, and it looked like the gulf war with the oil rigs burning at times...my lungs complained bitterly with every breath down wind of those damnable pyres...and they were everywhere! maybe more gennies now, but far less soot and nasty hydrocarbon/metals in the air....

50,000 people, with maybe 1 genny for every 10 people....5000 gennies running...over 1-2 sq. miles....doesn't get my hackles up...(now if you are NEXT to one's exhaust...)

The dust now....that is another story!

i really wish people would make chimneys out there, so we could get in our steam punk garb and do that chimney sweep song from Mary Poppins.

Awe, can't we just do "These Are A Few of my Favorite Things" from the remake I did of Sound of Music, called Sound of Manson. It's practically the same thing.

It's a joke. Maybe not a funny one, but a joke.
