Virgin, Oregonian, Ready to burrrrrrn!

Post by Fancy » Sat Feb 05, 2011 8:03 pm

A new friend of mine sat me down and had me watch a couple 2010 videos on youtube. Been hearing about it for years but was always too young, too poor, too scared. Actually seeing (very little, according to her) what goes on and what its all about made me decide that i have to go. Such an interesting and beautiful community of people all getting together and celebrating life, awesome. I grew up in a shitty small town, and though i've always known myself to be a unique, creative individual, ive had to fight against society to become the person i am today. I still feel there is so much for me to learn, that im so excited to learn. And i feel like this place has a lot to offer. So fuck it, i may be poor, and young, and yes, a little scared. but I'm now determind as well! not sure who ill be going with, or how ill be getting there. but im getting my ticket as soon as i save up the money. BURNING MAN OR BUST!

There are lots of Oregon burners. If you are near or in PDX there is a big burner community there that could offer some further introduction to burning man and help you plan.

There are many great threads here that have tuns of really good info to help you prepare. If you can't find an answer just ask and we will help.

Welcome.

This is very good advice ^^^^, add in you can join the "regionals" for your area (or close to it hopefully) the regionals are listed on the main burning man page.
Try to sign up for the "announce" and the "discussion" regional lists, if they have both.

Plenty of good info flows through these lists, especially heads up for fun fundraising and social events. My area has classes, schools, art projects, lots of stuff going on.

Welcome!

Sounds about right! I was scared to pieces before my first burn. I used that energy to pack & prepare way better than I should've been able to. You can do it too. :)

Thanks for the replies all :) My sister and i have decided to go together. She has some friends in Reno who have been going for several years now, so were going to find someway down there and hope for the best. We are both artists at heart, though never done anything of significance. Since we're new we are mostly thinking about gifts and searching thrift stores for some good boots or goggles. finding a job in this shitty little town is nearly impossible though, so wish me luck!

Sometimes shitty towns have very good thrift. If it's something you're likely to be patient with, there's a chance you could buy stuff and sell over the web.
And there's always housesitting/dog walking. Although, people aren't traveling that much right now.
