Well, there are still a lot of pissed off Christians who are in a tizzy that Supreme Court finally said that the state can't tell you who and how you're allowed to fuck. That seems pretty political...

And that eating thing. Some of us like to think we should be able to decide whether the food we buy is genetically altered or not, whether it's been covered with pesticides, etc. There's a lot of powerful forces that don't want you to be able to make those decisions, just buy what's in the aisles. Not to mention fish. Lots of folks like to eat those, but we pollute so much it's becoming dangerous. Those are pretty political issues.

Oh, and breathing. You left breathing off your list, but I think that's important. Air quality seems to be pretty wrapped up in politics too.

Killing, unfotrunately, has been wrapped up in politics since Day 1, I figure.

Face it y'all. As humanity's power over our environment has increased, all those things you thought were outside politics' sphere of influence have been sucked in. Anyone who doesn't pay attention is just saying: "I don't care. Do what you want to my food, my air, my water. I trust that those in power will do the right thing for me, and don't give a damn about what they may do to other people and lifeforms here on Earth."

Oh, and Calsur, this is the "General Discussion" board. That means we can talk about whatever we want. So fuck off, m'kay?

as opposed to: "I'm going to ignore all the legitimate science, as well as any calls for pragmatism or compromise, and instead react on an entirely emotional level to every stimulus, thus ensuring that no reasonable or intelligent discussion of the subject can ever be had. The false dichotomy I create in this way allows me to still remain the martyr while not actually having to do anything about it. I am absolved of blame and relieved of responsibility."

Who the fuck said that!

That's as dumb as a retired Army officer said in a letter to the editor before the Iraq war- "Trust your government! They know all the facts!"

I'm still laughing.

"Legitimate science" being whatever you agree with, right RG?

I really don't see how wanting know whether your food is geneticly modified or not can be "ducking responsibilty". Right now, Archer Daniels Midland can market all the GM'ed products they want, and you'll never be the wiser because they've lobbied hard to make sure that there are no laws requiring them to label their products as GM. Who's the one squelching discussion?

You think frankenfood is great, bully for you, eat all you want. I don't, I shouldn't have to. Cause you know what? I don't trust giant corporations to put my well-being above their profits. All your condescending bullshit about martyrdom and false dichotomies doesn't have anything to do with that.

Burn away, Cowboyangel. If I get my W. voodoo doll done, I'll throw it in flames.

Mmmph. I don't get it.

I read through the thread, and basically what I'm seeing is:

1. Build big art thing representing what we find evil and/or intensely destructive.

2. Burn it.

While a virgin burner, I do have to say it's pretty cool. But I would also note that the majority of people whom I have met through the local BM community are liberal, if not outright socialist hippie bastards (which I'm pretty close to being.)

I'm going to BM with no expectations except one - my personal reality (which currently includes a shitload of political ads, statements, and rallies) and worries and stress I intend to put aside for one week.

It's a neat idea, but for me it seems a lot more like telling the choir, "LORD, YOU GOTTA SING!" when they're already howling like a banshee on crack.

In other words...meh, cool, but not so cool I couldn't find something like that in my hometown with a bit more panache.

In the Seattle Fremont Festival, I actually saw a 20-foot plywood structure with baskets underneath. The plywood (10 feet tall) had cariactures of Bush, Cheney, Condi, Ashcroft, Norton, Poppy, Reagan, Tenet, Clarence Thomas, and good old weasel boy Mr. Defense Secretary and his sidekick, Wolfowitless.

And buckets and buckets of rotten fruit and veggies to hurl.

THAT would be cool.

Well, I thot it was funny :D.

ANYhoo, sorry to drag things back to the subject, but while I like the "gloomy, vampire-y (is that even a word?) mansion on a hill" thing, I think you should include a factory belching filth into the sky. Sort of like those faux-flame thingies you can get from that bastion of capitalism, Spencers, with the fan-driven bit of red/orange cloth with the light shining thru it. Maybe black, fan-driven crepe-paper at the end of a big smokestack or something like that. For sure, you should include some of those "black jockeys holding the lantern" statues, if you can find any.

Cowboyangel,

I will type slow so you can get my viewpoint. I am bombarded every day by adds that want to make a political point. When I posted here the first time you wrote:

“you definitely get a PhD in advanced name calling! This betrays some internal stuff you obviously need to work on. Had you crtiqued the idea without all the insults, it might have had more impact....now it's just a rant of hate that puts you into the same camp as some famous republican ideologues like Limbaugh, Savage, Hannity, O'Reilly, Cheney, North, etc etc..”

So I am branded by you to be a republican. Do you have any idea how I voted in the last election? Hope not as it is support to be secret.

And the only rant I have going here is the fact that there are some people who just have to get political and advance their view by what ever means at their disposal.

An advanced form of SPAM in my viewpoint.

Plus you have never posted anything about life on the Playa or a single item on the actual fact you will be on the Playa. Do you have a ticket? Will you attend Burning Man 2004?

And you only joined up here on the 14th of May of 2004, and when I click on you webpage I get a brightpathvid…….. website that switches to another website after 15 seconds. Both are ultra political.

Eplayans, Check it out for your self’s. I did not create the account or specify a home page.

Cowboyangel I just have one question. Who has the hand up your ass?

Gee, I thought it was "leave no tracers!"

Well, hell. There goes my plan to catch all the AK-47 bullets with little pingpong ball cups.

I got that hammered into my brain by not only my campmates, but every piece of Official Burning Man Propaganda.

Besides, as this is not MY project (sorry, I don't have anywhere near the amount of time to put this together) it's not an issue.

I leave no trace 'cause I'm not planning on burning anything.

Honestly, I've got no problem with the 887 posts in 3 months... And I've got no problem with politically oriented e-playans who exhort others to "BURN EFFIGY OF REPUBLICAN CONVENTION"... And finally, I've got no problem with someone keeping it secret whether or not they're even attending...

But put those 3 things together, and what do you get? You tell me, Cowboy...

Only then will I know how to answer your question...

I think i boils down to one mail thing, comparing the threads on Camp Israel and this.

The basis 'concensus' or the closest thing to it, from the CI thread was that LizWiz can do what she wants, and that constructive comments on inclusiveness may be welcome while flaming her is probably neither helpful nor welcome.

Now we turn to this thread and we're back to flaming, but in most cases, worse.....

CalSur, I've said it before. If you don't want to deal with politics then don't read it. And you could stay away from Cowboyangel's burn, too. There's plenty to do on the playa. you probably wouldn't even notice it happening.

Further, recent comments toward/against CBA suggest that some of you have developed some criteria for what makes a person a burner. Is this not the site for our community? Well? And if i don't make it to the burn this year does that mean I'm out? How do ya'll know what he does or does not do in his community, for instance? I never noticed any rules that say that to be a 'burner' you must be 'x'. This is hypocritical BS when we are supposed to be an inclusive society. It's elitist, to boot.

If you want to start your secret playa police, just keep it quiet, for Buddha's sake. No one else wants to get into witch hunts. Frankly, I find it pretty sad.

Mind your own business. If you have something helpful to say, say it. If you don't why don't you find another thread. As mentioned before, this IS the general discussion board.

Attendance is not and has never been a criteria for 'burniness' in my book (not that anyone's asking). Honesty is, and it's way the fuck up there near the top of the list (again, nobody's asking).

But when the question of "ligitimacy" comes up, you've got to walk the talk . Especially, when you consider who brought up the question of "legitimacy" in the first place. But that's just me.

And with that, Sensei promises not to read another word of any political thread till the goddamned event is over...

I'll be taking a nap in the SHARE section next door, so please try to keep it down...

Heeeee's baaaaack. Dammit, Sensei couldn't sleep a wink. So Sensei sauntered down to the Bamboo bar and laid his troubles (and his hands) on the bartender. After the inevitable slap, Sensei came home and did some serious stewing. What the hell just happened here? (Not at the bar, what happened in this thread... Jeez, I know it's late but try and keep up.) This is all I can come up with.

Cowboyangel, I sincerely don't care if you want to talk politics; I don't care how much space you take up to talk politics, or whatever else is on your mind; I don't care about which threads you choose to talk about politics in; I don't care if you want to keep your attendance secret; and finally, I don't care if you want to exhort actual, living playans to commit acts of 'art' while you yourself may or may not duck out the back...

I do care if you attend the event. You would be an addition worth having, especially if that brawl between the Miss Black Rock 2004 contestants and the Little Black Dress Parade breaks out like that psycho MBRC wants... While stewing, I did notice you logging on to this little thread, and then logging right the hell back off: no post?

Which, I'm afraid answers the question you yourself brought up concerning "legitimacy". Maybe I'm wrong. Not the first time, and sure as hell not the last. Maybe you'll come back with a scathing indictment of me or Calsur or both. We fuckin' deserve it... Seriously.

So... What has Sensei learned from all this? Only one damn thing: that this person,
http://images.burningman.com/index.cgi? ... &q_photog=
not only has more balls than you do Cowboy; I get the scary feeling that that little chick has more cojones than the rest of us combined. And she's burnier too.

Well I did not get but a brief peep at “YOUR” website because I was redirected to another website as stated in my previous post. And on the redirected web site I had to down load a plug-in to view it. And as stated before this makes you a spammer.

YES you do or at least have some interest at showing up on the Playa at some point and not just use this board to spew you politics. This board is for people who are trying to get to the Playa or who have been there and are sharing the experience.

Cowboyangel wrote,

Interesting comment from someone who only joined on the 14th of May. It sounds to me like you have a lot more experience than you are letting on. So I will ask again. Who’s hand is up your ass sock puppet Cowboyangel?

And there are 2 d’s in Buddhist and it should be capitalized as it is a proper name.

If you all could just step back and see at how funny this all looks. A Cowboy dueling with a purple dancing banana.
Sorry, gotta go with the Cowboy. Dancing bananas are just too funny to be credible.
Y'all are too busy taking the inventory of the worthiness of others , check yourselves. It does'nt matter what it is, if it does'nt fit your own agendas, you will find something wrong with it. How political is that? With something as ridiculous as an e-playa start date , or a purchase of a ticket, or the kind of art someone chooses as an avenue to express themselves with, or whether they're a hippie or not. What a waste of time, and creativity.

Far be it from me to rate Bambi's post, but would anyone agree it adds up to absolute zero? How close to the Arctic Circle are you?

Burning Man, if anything, is more about culture, and less about politics, which is why DPW burns all ya'll in effigy... but being politic about it, we do it before you get there... admitedly, torching a Marin County hippie be a little boring... we use something a bit more generic, if possible.
