Anonymous saving the world from corporate tyranny.
Anonymous saving the world from corporate tyranny.
Apparently over the weekend Anonymous thanked a corporate security firm for the attention they've been giving the group by hacking their email accounts and releasing 60,000 emails from the security firm.
Among them were plans for destroying the careers of American editorialist like Glenn Greenwald .

Anon for the most part is a collection of Fight Club worshiping enraged 15 year old kids. But... they are saving our asses from tyranny with their stupid antics.

Arron Barr is an arrogant tool. He seemed to think he was skilled enough to just wade into the same playground as Anon and capture some kids by linking facebook accounts based on the location listed on their friend's pages. Guilt by association was his plan and he expected the FBI to rain money on him.
Anon is not all 15yr olds hanging out at 4chan, nor are they a hierarchal structure that can be dismantled like a mob family. After reading the letter to the UK, there is no doubt it would be handled like a terroristic threat, even though Anon is calling it a cyber-protest/sit in.
I wouldn't go into the woods at Yellowstone and poke a bear with a stick, nor would I do what Arron Barr did.

Suck it.

I suspect in the next 10 years that Anonymous will be recognized as a sovereignty. A 'hacker republic' of sorts.Dr Jet Sinister wrote:

It is the only path that doesn't result in the total collapse of world economies. Anonymous because of it's decentralized nature is impossible to defeat. World governments will attempt create a centralized aspect by offering to recognize their sovereignty.
I can see them taking those governments up on it, and then stymieing the original intention of the national governments by creating a ran to run the anon republic in a complete anonymous and decentralized manner.

Has anyone heard the odds Vegas is giving for anonymous to successfully take down the NYSE?

I think this is mis-direction. Just my opinion. Anon is good at what they do but I find it hard to believe that they are going to announce a target. Look elsewhere...can't sit still wrote:Has anyone heard the odds Vegas is giving for anonymous to successfully take down the NYSE?

You may be right. Who would be the perfect target? Yep, that's who comes to mind to me too. 3 letter acronym for a private cartel that fucks us all.

Re: Anonymous saving the world from corporate tyranny.
I think we'll see a maturation process in Anonymous. Their unique brand of "occupation" is much more fearsome than street occupations. Street activists need to mature as well. They have to establish long lasting links to political activists...the kind of people who show up at public comment meetings and local government open meetings. They have to establish deep links with labor unions. They have to occupy a significant seat in the media, replacing the corporate zombie that lies there now with a vibrant honest, scholarly version. Anonymous can do well to read up on Derrick Jensen and Michael Parenti for deeper philosophical underpinnings....hear that guys?

The problem with Anonymous is that they're not self-regulating. So when one person hacks go into some poor BART schlub's computer under the banner of Anonymous and then posts personal information in a very public and homophobic way they start losing ANY cred with me and others.
You don't politicize the personal or the sexual or the private stuff. If you do then you become no less moral (or ethical) than that which you claim to be against.
Fact is a number of those Anonymous members are genuine juvenile dicks.

They have the potential to be good, but seem content to lead the lives of forum trolls, hiding behind a veil of anonymity. Talk about first world problems, most of them are likely in countries where activists and freedom fighters are afforded some measure of protection from persecution. The use of threats and intimidation to expose personal info or carry out personal attacks makes it tough to see them as anything better than the corporate and government thugs they're trying to bring down.

Re: Anonymous saving the world from corporate tyranny.
It's the modus operandi effect that's interesting. Check this out.
A virus has infected America's drone fleet, Wired's Noah Shachtman reports. It logs every keystroke operators type from their base in Creech Air Force Base in Nevada, but that hasn't halted their missions. Though the military hasn't found any incidents of the virus sending information to an outside source, they haven't been able to get rid of it. Shachtman explains:
"We keep wiping it off, and it keeps coming back," says a source familiar with the network infection, one of three that told Danger Room about the virus. "We think it's benign. But we just don't know."
Military network security specialists aren't sure whether the virus and its so-called "keylogger" payload were introduced intentionally or by accident; it may be a common piece of malware that just happened to make its way into these sensitive networks. The specialists don't know exactly how far the virus has spread. But they’re sure that the infection has hit both classified and unclassified machines at Creech.
The U.S. has increasingly relied on drones to carry out the war on terror in Afghanistan in recent years. Al Qaeda YouTube preacher Anwar al-Awlaki was killed last month by a drone strike in Yemen.
If this is Anonymous, I congratulate them. If not then I hope this inspires them to a higher level of operation.
