On ePlaya snark can be anything from rude humor to bad manners, and some hybrids exist. It's not often really hateful. But it's not easy for me to take too seriously. I mean, folks, this is the internet, after all, where electronic hip boots should be required.
Now this Snark would be more worrisome, but it's no longer operational:

Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Classy AntiM. I'm just offended by the word, especially after his remarks in the ticket thread.
Well, boys and girls, if you're counting ways to get me to plonk, here's another one.
Of course, I'd probably be happy to if you asked me nicely as well. A sort of "friendly mutual plonk."

But you used humor; I'm looking like one of those old ladies scolding 17-year-olds for being idiots. (Like they have a choice.) At least if I were an old man I could say:AntiM wrote:Hmm, I wouldn't say better. Just a different flavor of disdain.theCryptofishist wrote:No, your approach is clearly better. But I thought that a wider condemnation was useful.

Maybe we should meander under the shade, pay no attention to that missile, it'll be gone in no time.......would anyone like a nice cold drink?dr.placebo wrote:On ePlaya snark can be anything from rude humor to bad manners, and some hybrids exist. it's the internet, so you have to expect some snark. But way too often, it crosses the line on ePlaya into boorish bad manners.
Simon has taken snark to an art form and when he snarks among his various socks, it's just a sublime thing to see. He crosses the line sometimes, but generally, his snark is the kind I think adds to the forum.
There are a few others, however, who don't have SOTP's wit and their attempts at snark come across as tedious condescension.

I've spent a good chunk of the last 20 years hanging out with drag queens- what counts as snark on eplaya is, other than a few practitioners (especially Bob, SotP & Iso ) Remedial Snark amongst them. I'm no where near as good as those queens around me, I've learned to have a think skin for those times I don't have a quick wit to respond with.
It's been much worse on here, I think the current level is fine. Almost everyone who's been to the Playa and is on here has met others in person, so there's not as much of the anonymity factor at play as there can be on other boards.
