HI ! i'm kind of using this post as my how i got to burning man blog, because i am to computer illiterate to know how to do a blog

Latest update the nice man i have asked for assitance with my BM prep has replied saying he will help me in way!!! which i think is a stunningly generous response from someone i have only spoken to once in nearly 30 years
Of course as i didnt expect any response at all i know have no idea what i would like. the 7p rule would seem to apply here :D
i was thinking i would ask if he could help me get a vehicle to get out there and back, possibilty giving it to someone when i leave

If you're coming back more than once, your approach woulod be very different.
Some people store a vehicle in reno over the year.
Depends on your budget and approach for doing it all.
Tent and shade is most crucial.
Backpacking gear can be light enough to ship or carry.
Heavy tents are a problem for this.

7p?

I just dont like london AT ALL anymore and would be far happier liiving just about anywhere else say mossside :D - seriously i plan to go as soon as circumstances permit I am really hoping i can pull of a move to nevada

Dara - steal away its not copyrighted and if you want to quote me i can stretch it to many many more pees' withthe addded benefits they aren't in my pantys (about one a day atm when i think I'M GOING TO BURNING MAN!)

whatever assistance i manage to get i hope to be able to pass some on to fellow burners to be if i can.

If I'm going to let Burning Man affect me, let it be NOW before I even get to the playa

So, are "reasonable" and "excitement" concepts that belong in the same sentence anyway?

A reasonable level of excitement might be considered to be the expectation that when DVD Burner says he's leaving for good - after the 15th time - that he might actually follow through with it.

Only goes to show that life's full of heartbreak and broken promises.

Should have warned you... airfares between here and there fluctuate up and down. About twice a year they dip, then come back. It's during those dips you have to buy your tickets, else it will go up.

Try BA, Virgin, and Air France. Compare the 3, but be warned that the closer you get to take off date (starting 6-7 months out) the worse it gets.

Int'a air between here and there is bad for that, the only ting I know is if you wait too long you miss the window. We go back6 and forth to Italy usually 2x a year, and get our tickets 6-8 months in advance. Sorry you didn't know... but it really makes being able to do the "pond hop" possible VS a dream.

Good luck...

thanks for the quick reply and advice BBS, i've kind of got a little bit lucky in that i am getting a refund in the next week or so, xombined with the tiny amount of savings i have i may get really lucky and be able to grab a ticket before they get much more expensive.
Procrastination IS NOT an option. dammit i am going to BM no excuses or panicing is going to change a damn thing, though i think asking other brits may be beneficial

Prices even fluctuate during the week, and day.
There are books and sites giving advice about the best times to shop and why.
It may be worth checking package tours.
You'd think they would be higher, but from here, they often are far cheaper or the same.
Vegas and Reno may be particularly desperate now.
Icelandair stops in iceland enroute no extra charge.

I travel to USA quite a bit, and I can tell you that in my experience - the best time to book your flight is 2 mths before the date you wish to go. I am a bargain hunting obsessive, and I try all the usual tricks with dates, times, connections, using discount codes, haggling on the phone etc etc..

I have never paid more than £400 for a return flight to any part of the USA from the UK.. north or south!!

back to the "reasonable level of excitement" thing...

i bought a car the day before yesterday after having been without one for some months. i was not as excited as i was when i bought my ticket for burning man. not even close.

though now i am contemplating driving across the entire damn country to get there instead of flying. i've never done it, it kind of sounds like fun...

If you have the time, do it. Especially if you have time to stop impulsively and explore. As a child, we moved cross-country several times. I am in love with the passing scenery, the weird little places, the houses, the truckstops, well, dammit, America. Plus the scenery when you get out West is like nothing else.

go to 'the flight centre'
DO NOT go to the flight centre - they are a massive rip off!!!!

American Airlines last year return to chicago from Heathrow..

£379 return RESULT...

Cheapest flight centre price was £499

i wouldn't have much time to stop, and would have to split driving with someone due to time constraints, taking turns driving and sleeping. but even then i still think it'd be fun. will find out this weekend if it's possible or not...

I'm on the east coast as well, and I made the decision to drive cross-country to get to Burning Man with my girlfriend, once she gets back. She's been out of the country for a loong time teaching English to Japanese kiddies, so we are going to tour America together and burn the Man to celebrate her coming back for good.

To the OP... Not to take your question too seriously, but your level of excitement is reasonable, because it's yours. At first I wondered if driving cross-country to Burning Man seemed crazy, until I heard of people who fly across continents to get there! Then again, people think I'm crazy because my girlfriend has lived in another country for a couple of years... it's all relative I guess :D Tell you what though, having an international girlfriend is a great excuse to travel!

That's not Sparkle Pony, that's style (well, unless they involve bikini's & fake fur leg warmers...)

I have full suits planned for every night each year, and they're dry cleaned before I go. Don't ever be afraid to dress like you want, as much as you want.

Daytime I wear maybe 2 or 3 different pants, one pair of shoes & switch out t-shirts; night-time is a whole different ball game (but I'm not wearing the wool suit the night of MnG this year, I got there late waiting for it to cool down enough to get the suit on)
