they are looking for people without tickets, and will crawl into the car if they have to. Smaller totes, that no one could fit into might be a start. Certainly not all higglety-pigglety, as you don't want to have to repack.

disabled but I have no placard
I am coming to BM for the tenth year in a row....WOW....but as I have gotten older I am not as able as I once was...as a disabled vet does anyone know how I can get a permit for my golf cart?
no placard
thanks for the help but I need to know if I can get my golf cart on the playa without a state placard!
You need to ask the dmv at burning man directly.
As I understand it, the general rule is to have the state permit.
There may be circumstances, such as temporary medical issues, that might allow a permit with documentation, such as a broken leg.
If you are going to need this option in the future, I think getting the state permit would be the easier approach.
Some states can be cranky about this.
The fine print seems to disallow almost everyone needing a permit, in some states.

If you don't pre-register or have the placard, you may have to leave the cart in impound until you arrange something, or wait at the gate to contact someone.

No. They need the letter from your state dmv that goes with a placard or handicapped plates. Otherwise the priveledge would be abused. If you don't have a car and haven't needed a placard, talk to your doctor and get one. You don't have to use it if you don't want to, but you don't want to be waiting for a dmv placard if you suddenly have an issue and need to get around while having limited mobility. The placards can be used if you've got a friend helping you, for instance.

wood gas stove
Anybody have any experience with this?

It is a patio fireplace that burns just about anything flamable in a highly efficient manner. It basically supercharges,,, I suspicion sort of a catalytic converter action. They claim very little smoke and an easily controlled flame. Comments?

Looks like a wood gasification stove. All it really does is heat the wood without burning it (at first) to drive off the combustable gasses and it burns that.

That looks strangely similar to the diagram on their website. Thanks, Badger.
I was more interested whether anyone had used one and if they might be something practical on the playa. A burn barrel substitution without the flying cinders, etc.

OK, I should know better than this, but the BMOrg "promised" us that the on-line What-When-Where guide would be operational today and the first 900-something requests would be printed, with a deadline in just a couple of days. I do not see the link to do that when I go to the page on the main website. Anybody have a different experience or know how to actually do it?

Interesting. Three hour burn using wood pellets. I like that.
Methinks tis just a large stewpot with its arse cut out and the guts are no secret, hmm.
Need to find out a bit more and maybe build something like it. Out of a stainless beer keg languishing beside the shop...
250,000 BTU/hr
It leaves charcoal behind though they say it can be used in any charcoal burning bbq, grill, etc. It'd be coarse little pieces if burning twigs or wood chips, no idea on pellets. A source of charcoal chunks to press your own home-rolled briquettes!
Mix w/ small bit of water, fold in some mesquite and hickory chips that were soaked in bourbon, and press into muffin or cupcake pans, hmm. Protobriquettes could be hand wrung in cheesecloth. Possibilities.....

A shade structure, for Birgins
Hello there Burners -
I have looked around and found little information about this - I hope you have ideas to share!
this year is my first time at Burning Man. I am coming with minimal stuff and would like the freedom of not being part of a camp. I have a tent, but I have heard this is not enough to protect from possible extreme heat from the blazing sun during the day - when many people sleep.
I was wondering if anyone has tips and ideas for simple, efficient shade structures that can be very easily broken down and/or transported.
Thank you.

How do I find out when/ if this will be happening?
Or when/if anything will be happening, for that matter.

Re: Frequently Asked Questions: Look here first.
SaritaSyrah, when you arrive at the event, there are at least two stops:
Gate - where they tear your ticket and look briefly for stowaways in your vehicle. This stop is strictly business.
Greeters - this is an area beyond Gate, where lighthearted folks will give you a What/When/Where guide (a book of planned programming) a map, last-minute advice, etc. (I believe PolyParadise is the camp that has the Human Carcass Wash.) I recommend looking for events in the W/W/W, early in the week, although you'll probably find yourself doing completely different stuff anyway.
Before you actually get to the event, you can check the 2012 Theme Camps and 2012 Art & Performance forums here on ePlaya, particularly in June or July, once theme camps get placed and know what their addresses will be. There is also a link at the top of the main site called "Theme Camps", which will have a list of camps and their contact information. 2012 Theme Camps aren't listed yet, but here's a sample of what was there last year:

It can be fun to know whats going on in advance in case you like to have a costume for a certain something. Last year I compiled a list of some specific camps, their addresses, and the days on which they were having various events. I only made it to a few, but I liked having the information with me.
