After a few burns with French braids, covered hair, tangles, sad lank curls, and destroyed hair when I come home from the burn I have decided to go with dread extensions. I purchased an order of 60 double ended dread extensions in jet black with some dark purple and dark aqua accents to put in my hair for the burn. 3 weeks in the dust required a stronger approach than just covering and braids. Hopefully it will be the solution I am looking for!

I am imagining it, Sav. And from what I am imagining it's a pretty spot on interpretive dance!Savannah wrote:Got my time off approved.![]()
The Thursday & Friday before, the Week of, & the Tuesday after Labor Day.
I will now do a really amazing interpretive dance.

FWIW, I skimmed the Big Lot near my home and saw the following items fully stocked with the seasonal crap:
72ct Solar LED Umbrella Lights $20
60ct Solar LED Lights $20 (apart from the #of lights this comes with some sort of stake for using the panel on the ground AFAIK)
Some solar strings with however many dragondflies, roses, and what-have-yous (sorry I had no interest hence wasn't really paying much attention to detail).
Many styles of staked solar walk lights (4/6/8 for $20)
A 2 pack of solar lanterns for $7, I didn't see any external panels in the package so I'm thinking the lantern itself has to be in the sun (which nixes my idea of using them in the center of my monkey hut).
YMMV

Picked u a 100 LED flashlight from Harbor Fright
.
I loaded it with batteries, turn it on and set it on the table for two hours..
When I went to pick it up the battery area was hot.. So I turned it off for awhile.. Then on again for three hours.. I checked it for heat a few times but it stayed cool.. Now WTF was that all about??
Away I have run the light for over six hours. It has not dimmed
$16.00 on sale

As stupid as this is to say, one thing I never pre-playa tested was battery life of flash lights.unjonharley wrote:Picked u a 100 LED flashlight from Harbor Fright.

The dragonflies are nice, but the battery ones fall off their wires if you wear them.Sic Pup wrote:FWIW, I skimmed the Big Lot near my home and saw the following items fully stocked with the seasonal crap:

You set the solar lantern outside in the morning and use it in the evening. Yeah?

Doh!
Reeks too much of obligation.

I wish I still had the 64 bus I learned to drive stick shift on. It got stolen from an airport parking lot in '78.
yesterday I ordered a small 25 watt 2.1 amplifier. First one I've seen with a single channel sub output built in. I have a subwoofer case that was built to sit in the well of a spare tire, uses a little 5 1/4" speaker. I need to get a speaker for it. boom with a small b.
This morning I ordered some color changing leds... can't have too many of those. Got some 3.6V lithium batteries last week... cheap 8500 mAH, 10 for 10 dollars.

and a kangaroo tail. (?)

We're thinking about getting one of these for when the generator is off during the night. Has anyone had any experience with it?

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

I was thinking about similar things made by Duracell (DPP-600HD Powerpack 600 Jump Starter & Emergency Power Source with Radio)
or
Xantrex XPower Powerpack 400 Plus Portable Backup Power Source
They are the two best-rated models I was able to find over several hours of searching that interested me-- jump starters that also provide power. Looks like the Schumacher unit isn't billed as a jump starter and is therefore helpfully cheaper . . .
One of the reviews claims that Xantrex actually makes the Duracell model in the same place (although the Duracell is more powerful and has a radio, which I'm not looking for). Also, there are customer arguments about what degree of success can be expected in terms of actual jump start capability and anecdotes about getting it properly charged.
Anyway, yeah, I'm weighing this myself!
eta: The Duracell model ships for free, the Xantrex for $32.66. Both have ratings averaging 4 stars . . . but the Duracell has twice as many reviews altogether.
And of course, WalMart is shipping for 97 cents.

Actually, look it up on Amazon. I just moments ago bought one there for $63.28 no tax and free shipping.
I didn't want any of the "options" like a light or charging wires. I'm thinking I'll be happy with this...plug it into the generator during the day and power the LEDs and other stuff at night when the generator is off.

Well, I'll be jiggered.
Considering my boss gave me an Amazon gift card for Christmas this year, I might finally have to act. I really don't want the bells & whistles either. Just to charge my cell phone (I always manage to sap a lot of the power on the way to the desert, and then get to worry about it on the way back). Etc. This is why I haven't spent money on such a thing before.
Oh my god, maybe I could also blend a daiquiri.

I bought one like that for last year and after trying it for a week I took it back.
Limited AH and had to be carful not to over charge.
It had lights and radio built in.
Should be all right for your lights as long as your recharging from the genny.
I bought a 105AH battery instead and it lasted all week with no charging.

Well, the company that makes them has a pretty good reputation. And the unit itself has lights that indicate less than half charge, 50 to 70% charge and fully charged, and it automatically goes into "maintain" mode when fully charged so that you can't over charge it.FIGJAM wrote:I bought one like that for last year and after trying it for a week I took it back.

It is only 22Ah, but according to the time estimates in the instruction manual, it should be more than sufficient; and we will be able to charge it daily.
I'll know in about a week for sure when it gets here.
Oh, and all the reviews I've read on it are 5 Star.
