sac games, you are ignoring my posts? is it because you really are a burner and you understand what you are doing is wrong, not because you are selling the BM 'experience' but because you are taking from all the effort others are putting in without returning anything? Or is it bevause you know that you have no moral defence on the whole package you are offering?

Burning Man, for me- i can't speak for anyone else, is more than just TTiTD it is about the effort and thought you put into going and understanding that NOCOMMERCE isn't a rule, it is a philosophy, BM costs money to put on and its costs money to get there, that Sir is unavoidable. However once you get there financial transactions stop. end of. In Fact anything you do with other burners is meant to be without fanancial gain in mind. hence to no touting your 'service' on here
People spend A LOT of money putting on the art you are charging people to go and see and paying other people to make sure they can do it for No Effort, the people you are selling this to aren't going with the NOCOMMERCE in mind you are selling it people that it simply doesn;'t matter enough to to DO IT THEMSELVES.
It doesn't matter if other people are doing it, if i can talk to them i will ask the same question.

I read your last post a couple times as I tried to answer your concerns. I didn't realize I left out unanswered questions.

Thets go to the first paragraph, you are telling me that there is a spacific was to burn..."your way". If a group decides they do not want to spend months in preparation and set up their own camp, then that is their choice.

Second paragraph- I am not selling anything on the playa. There will not be money exchanged other than if we need ice and to do grey and black water removal. At what point did I try to tout on here. I haven't posted anything here to sell. The Mod would have called me out on it already.

When did I charge to see the art? My clients paid the same $320 as everyone else did to see the art.

And once again you are preaching "your way" to burn in the last paragraph.

For the original point of the thread I agree. I think there is a fear that we're becoming a "tourist" destination as opposed to a participant destination. We've always been that to a large degree on the weekends, but there are more & more people coming earlier in the week.

That's kind of why I'm taking the "work with them" approach- better to train them in what exists than try to stop the unstoppable. Change is happening, we just need to get off our butts & try to shape it so it benefits everyone. One of my friends thinks I shouldn't even be offering to help, that I'm "selling out". I asked him what should be done- he said they shouldn't come "like that". I said Sarah Palin shouldn't be a national figure either, but she is. Once the dam is broken you can't just point & tell the water to "stay", you figure out how to deal with it.

I think as the thread has gone on it's turning into the annual "RV aren't how you Burn, man" debate. Those people can suck my microwaved soup.

I'm having as much of a problem with birgins making declarative statements about what the event is or isn't as they are with luxury RV's. People are claiming a culture they only know from videos & pictures & maybe talking to people (or eplaya), yet they think they know whats best for it.

Either way, people who've never been are trying to define what the event is.

My question is when does it become not acceptable? when its burning man holidays sponsered by coca-cola?
it seems to me that the purpose behind the no-commerce rule and putting BM in the middle of the desert, and not providing any services beyond the minimum required by law - getting BRC built by volounteers, having everyone that puts on a show or produces an art piece do it off there own back (even the grants dont cover the cost) forbidding people selling things on eplaya. all have one purpose, to encourage a sense of community.
If nobody protests these commercial ventures then how long is it before burning man becomes just like glastonbury or just about every other festival out there?

Is a piece of art any more pitiful if it was given a grant by the money we all pay at the door? My opinion, I love every piece of art out there. I respect each and every piece no mater how off the wall it is.

If you hate the fact that MONEY puts this event together, you should stay at home and party around a burn barrel.

You're totally right- I currently "live" on this board. I'm unemployed, when I'm not job hunting (a lot of which is done via computer now days) I spend a lot of time here. When my wife was in town this past weekend I didn't check in for.. 3 days? 4? Then I skimmed the posts. I survived just fine without bringing it up. I don't bring it up a lot off eplaya either.

When I was employed I checked in at night when I got home. I hang out here for the same reason Fishy does- I like the company, I like the conversations (mostly), most of my friends are at work & I can't afford to go out like I could if I was employed.

For me the Burn is a continuation of the life I was already living before I ever went. I'm totally honest about being addicted to it. I'm also totally addicted to the 2-Buses-Full-Of-Drag-Queens-Going-To-Reno trip I've done every Easter Weekend for the past 12 years. I've gone to that more than Burning Man.

I would miss both if they ended, but my life wouldn't be over. I don't think yours would be either.

There are, however, lots of people who seem to think that The Burn is there only time they "get to be themselves" and that there is some sort of spiritual enlightenment they get from it. They may, but unless they learn to carry that with them every day (like most of the regulars on this board seem to do) they're going to be crushed if it ends.

I'll head to NYC for vacation.

Now I'm beginning to have trouble with the whole "why do I keep clicking this thread?" issue.
