oh boy.......this thread is becoming about me instead of my idea......strange that a discussion board would bring out so much resentment...if any of you really got to know me I'm sure you'd come to like me like so many other people....My first burn was last year and it was amazing in so many ways, spiritual mostly....proves you can find whatever you're lookin for if you're open. I've been politically active since the Vietnam protest days, served for 8 years as a camerman with Greenpeace-faced Soviet machine guns at our Siberia Grey Whale mission in 1983, crawled on my belly in Chevron Richmond's toxic sludge pools to get GP footage, nearly went down with the ship in 85 in Auckland.....continue to work with Indymedia as a reporter sometimes getting clubbed by the cops in protests....I've been married, raised 2 kids climbed McKinley twice ( summitted once) ...I don't have anything to prove to the outside anymore...I think I've played the courage game pretty well too...I'm workin on a documentary that's including alot of footage I shot at BM last year (already posted this on my site last Sept-Dec) I found eplaya in May that's when I joined..... What I've learned in my years is that peaceful cooperation get's alot more done than mud slinging, and yes politics is everywhere whether you like it or not and you can choose to look at it or to not look at it.....BM is a creative burning pot for many ideas.....It is the positive communal institution we've all been waiting for and it's never going away because it's too deep....people need it too badly inside.... once again let's try to stay focused on the ideas rather than beating up on eachother...let's critique eachother's ideas rather than tear eachother apart.....nough said?

AHEM.

Post by thedrunkenmonkey » Sun Jul 18, 2004 12:25 pm

I know this is going to get me flamed, or at the very least, whined at.

But.

I fail to ever take anyone seriously on an electronic forum if they are:

1. Rude.
2. Spend much of their time in "mental masturbation" - where the poster simply writes on and on and on and on and posts in order to make themselves feel as if their posting equates to a valued discussion regarding an issue.
3. A poor speeler it punctuates. porperly and stops grammaticals.

That being said, I posted an idea a while back for discussion. Not really expecting anyone to discuss THAT idea. I got one person who asked me in private discussion, "Who cleans up the mess?" to which I had to reply, "The person who done brung it. Duh."

Bob, Cowboyangel - all this is doing is making me personally not want to read anything either of you post for fear of having to sift through your sniping at each other to find relevant information. I don't care if you're on Prozac or you feel as if the world's marginalized you. I came here for ideas, not bitch-fests.

That's my opinion, I'm sticking to it - and gettin' off this subject, because you guys are just wanking at this point.

Cowboy,

You are welcome over to my board. There is no reason you have to put up with whiners, negative, conscious spellers that are always in a bad mood.
That goes for everyone that is getting a little bit tired of the kiddy itty bickering that goes on here. My board isn’t 100% yet but it is 75% and a ton of fun is currently being put into it.

Check it out anytime.

I love eplaya but some of who over here that think they are hot shit that ruin it for everybody (and I'm sure those same people say the same about be.) get to be a bit much. wish they would make thier own BBS and community and stay there instead of bringing their negative vibe to eplaya.

Hi Joel! well yes to that but why don't we throw out some of those ideas for discussion?

Quite an incendiary one, too, based on the opening post.

I reiterate -- why should, or shouldn't, we burn anyone in effigy?

Number one reason.... the word was used improperly to begin with.
Had a "person" replaced Republican Convention.... then the whole thread would make more sense...

see definition below.

Main Entry: ef·fi·gy
Pronunciation: 'e-f&-jE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -gies
Etymology: Middle French effigie, from Latin effigies, from effingere to form, from ex- + fingere to shape -- more at DOUGH
: an image or representation especially of a person; especially : a crude figure representing a hated person
- in effigy : publicly in the form of an effigy <the football coach was burned in effigy>

and why we shouldn't burn people in effigy... simply put... it is a case of making yourself a whole bucket load of "bad karma" from my humble midwestern buddhist perspective.

The Hun, picking up on an opportunity to produce some good guerrilla theater, organized an appropriate street event for the strangling Haight, entitled the Death of Hippie. There was an orderly funeral procession of pallbearers carrying a coffin filled with hippie paraphernalia such as beads, flowers, hair, and so on, and followed by a large crowd of veiled mourners. The wooden coffin draped in black crepe paper was placed on top of a pyre and set aflame while a bugler played taps and ushers handed out black-bordered remembrance cards to the assembled which read:

Once upon a time, a man put on beads and became a hippie--Today the hippie takes off his beads and becomes a man--a freeman! Leaving behind the final remains of "Hippie--the devoted son of Mass media and the boundaries are down. San Francisco is free! Now free! The truth is OUT, OUT, OUT!

Bob where were you in the 60's? Why all the hate against hippies? Some of my favorite hippies= Wavvy Gravy (Camp WinaRainbow) Steven Gaskin (The Hog Farm-takes in unwed mothers and their babies) Peter Coyote, Well...the Dead for Christ's sake, there were alot of beautiful things birthed by the hippies and I honor that....now onto the rep convention burn idea

it's not whining it's responding to innacurate assertions...my point is obviously stated so why ask an unnecessary question? Where are you "ideas" about the idea...we've got plenty of your negatives...ideas please

OK, THATS IT! Now you got me MAD! THAT IS FUCKING IT! The GLOVES are coming fucking OFF, and right goddamned NOW!

Fight me, flame me, fuck me, lie and deceive me; pick one, I've seen worse. But FOR GODS SAKE STOP BORING ME TO DEATH! Look, it's obvious all you losers need something to bitch (and lie) about, and I desperately need some entertainment on the e-playa about now, so here's the deal...

The next person to PM me an e-mail address gets a full-color pic of Sensei, wearing his stunning new LBD, which, on your honor, you will post on this very thread... Sensei would do this himself, but Sensei has the computer skillz of a grape-nut.

Look people, I'm sorry it had to come to this. Really, I apologize in advance for what you're gonna see; BUT IT FUCKING HAD TO BE DONE! And you goddamned KNOW IT!

The things I do for you people...

Just wondering how much ya'll're committed to burning the people Mr/Ms Angel called out by name, albeit in effigy.

After all, the firebombing of the WTC and Pentagon only amounted to symbolism, for some.

Again... why is it you keep dancing around the fact that you stated you want to burn actual people in effigy?

Did you somehow fall off the EST wagon and assume Burning Man was about destroying the patriarchy?

Furrfu... we did an oil rig float (and the requisite O-Peckers) eons ago for the West Marin Junior Livestock Show & Parade... but Bunringman ain't all that, as much as your garden variety hipster should know.
