your Art Car/Project/ThemeCamp need an Electronics Designer?

Post by lightgraywolf » Sun Feb 20, 2011 1:54 pm

2011 will be my 3rd burn. Like so many others, I have been inspired by the incredible amount of art and technology all across the Playa. Last year I was involved with the Honorarium project "Polygonia" and really enjoyed the experience. This year I'd like to flex muscles that I feel are more my forte: Electronics Design.

If you have an Art Project that needs some technology and are looking for a circuit designer / slash / fabricator / slash / programmer, I'm your man. However, I live in the D.C. area which means my efforts will probably need to be done remotely. There's a possibility that we may not meet face-to-face until Burning Man begins.

I am:
* An EE/CpE college graduate
* A career electrical engineer
* A hobby machinist
* Self-employed (with some time on my hands right now)
* An avid scuba diver (not relevant at all, just thought I'd mention it)

I can:
* Design analog and digital circuits
* Lay out PC boards (2 and 4 layer)
* Make Bill-of-Materials with cost breakdowns and vendor part numbers
* Build and test PC boards
* Write firmware for PIC-based microcontrollers (and some others)
* Arrive at BM early and help with installation/troubleshooting
* Yes! I even do Surface Mount (SMT) and can do reflow soldering.

My specialties include:
* sensors (touch, light, sound, magnetics, positioning, etc)
* analog-to-digital acquisition/analysis
* high-voltage controls (relays, solenoids, actuators)
* low-voltage controls (LEDs, motors)
* high-current controls (very bright LEDs)
* ... and miscellaneous other stuff.

What I'm looking for:
* A cool, really cool or supremely mind-blowing project to work on (another Honorarium project would be great, but really I'll consider anything)
* Something fun but not too big (I have time to contribute, but not measured in HUNDREDS of hours)
* Fun, enthusiastic and innovative people to work with
* Maybe a new camp to call "home" if it works out that way

So.... If you feel your project and team would be a good match for my skills and interests, PLEASE contact me via PM here on ePlaya.

If you attended our regional burn in Utah in July, you could go scuba diving. We hold it at Seabase, which has a scuba facility; they have deep spring-fed warm salt water springs. And sharks. One pool goes 90 feet down.
